SAN MATEO -- There were two turf races contested at the San Mateo County Fair Friday and both were won by outsiders.

Eight horses competed in the fifth race, a 5 1/2-furlong dash on the Longden Turf Course. The winner was Advance Ticket, who paid $14.20 after going off as the fourth choice in the betting at odds of 6-to-1.

Eight runners also lined for the seventh race, a 7 1/2-furlong turf test. Four Ninety Nine B, a 14-to-1 shot ridden by Pablo Flores, rallied from just off the pace to win by 1 1/2 lengths and pay $30.00.

Flores had a riding double Friday as he also won the third race with Bullish Yield ($8.20).

The fair will present nine races Saturday and four of them will be run on the turf. Post time is 1:45 p.m. and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will have the chance to participate in a "Grab Bag" promotion in which they will receive a Bay Meadows souvenir.
