The Graham Motion-trained 5-year-old mare, who has won five of her eight career starts, stalked the pace in the Matriarch but lacked her usual stretch kick.
Unbridled Humor won the first four races of her career before tasting defeat for the first time in the Diana (G1), in which she faded to seventh over a “good” turf at Saratoga last summer. After rebounding with a triumph in the Noble Damsel (G3) over a firm Belmont Park course, she gave up the lead late to finish second in the Athenia (G3) on yielding turf.
“I think she prefers firm turf,” Motion said.
Live Oak Plantation, which bred and owns Unbridled Humor, will also be represented on the six-race Florida Sunshine Millions card by home-bred Slews Answer in the Turf.
Slews Answer, who has won four of seven starts, breezed five furlongs, was the beaten favorite in his most recent start, the $125,000 Bonnie Heath Turf Championship, in which he made a strong move into the stretch, only to tire to fifth.
“I thought in his last start at Calder, he came up short,” said Motion, whose lightly raced 5-year-old son of Ghostzapper turned in an impressive five-furlong breeze in 58.30 seconds at Palm Meadows Training Center on Thursday.
