Fernando Jara rode the winner who denied Frankie Dettori on the runner-up in one of the closest finishes of the season, to the delight of Watson who said: “This horse has a lot of speed and it is a great result for the whole team – especially owner Malih Al Basti who is such a good supporter of the yard.
Jara then won the maiden over the same distance on Alto Stratus who is trained by Adi Selvaratnam on an afternoon of doubles.
Trainers Erwan Charpy and Mubarak Bin Shafya shared the other four races between them, with Charpy winning the opening 1950m handicap with Calabash Cove, under Tadhg O’Shea and concluding 1600m handicap with Mutajammel, the mount of Richard Hills.
Ahmad Ajtebi partnered Bin Shafya’s Blue Sky Basin to land the 1400m handicap but was beaten into second earlier on in the 1800m handicap in which he rode Moonquake but was beaten by stable companion Military Power.
Jesus Rosales was on the winner to provide the trainer with a notable 1-2.
