Lexington, KY (November 7, 2008) – Weanling colts – led by a son of Giant’s Causeway which sold for $310,000 – topped Friday’s session of Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale.

Castle Park Farm LLC (Noel Murphy), agent, consigned the colt by Giant’s Causeway out of the Dixieland Band mare Queen’s Music. He was purchased by Clear Ridge Stable.

Colts by Cherokee Run and Tiznow brought the day’s second- and third-highest prices, respectively. Ferguson Valley went to $300,000 to acquire the colt by Cherokee Run out of the Carson City mare Limited Entry. Consigned by Lane’s End, agent, the colt is from the family of Grade 1 winner Family Enterprize.

A colt by Tiznow out of the Wild Rush mare Dirty Rush was purchased for $280,000 by Pearl Street Farm. He was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

“There was great strength in the foal market today,” said Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland’s director of sales. “Pinhookers were very busy, which shows their optimism in the market. As one prominent pinhooker noted today, ‘Good foals are recession-proof.’ ”

On Friday, Keeneland sold 230 horses for gross receipts of $12,786,000, down 42 percent from 2007 when 245 horses brought $22,034,500. The average of $55,591 decreased 38.2 percent from last year’s figure of $89,937, while the median of $45,000 was down 30.8 percent from $65,000 in 2007.

Cumulatively, Keeneland has sold 954 horses for $144,067,000, down 46.9 percent from the corresponding period last year when 1,121 horses brought $271,446,500. The average of $151,014 represents a 37.6 percent decrease from $242,147 in 2007. The median was down 37.2 percent from $125,000 in 2007 to $78,500 this year.

Quarter B Farm/Tim Boyer paid $200,000 for Ourfavoritesong, in foal to Tiznow. The four-year-old Unbridled’s Song mare is a half-sister to Anne Arundel Stakes (G3) winner Martha’s Music. She was consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.

Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale continues through Monday, November 17. Sessions begin at 10 a.m. daily.
