LEXINGTON, KY (Jan. 11, 2012) – Yearlings dominated the Wednesday session of Keeneland’s January Horses of All Ages Sale, accounting for the day’s top three prices, led by the $180,000 paid by Glen Hill Farm for a filly by leading sire Kitten’s Joy.
Out of the stakes-placed Danzig mare Garden Spot, the session-topping filly is from the family of Horse of the Year and top sire Mineshaft.
Irish agent Tim Hyde paid the day’s second-highest price of $140,000 for a colt by Candy Ride (ARG) out of Princess Consort, by Dixieland Band.
Both yearlings were consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, agent.
Results continued to surge on Wednesday when Keeneland sold 263 horses for $4,255,900, an increase of 47.8 percent over 2011 when 227 horses brought $2,878,150. Average price for the day of $16,182 rose 27.6 percent from last year’s session average of $12,679. The median price of $7,500 was up 7.1 percent from the $7,000 posted in 2011. The RNA rate declined 30.3 percent.
“The market continues to show considerable consistency and strength,” said Keeneland Vice President of Sales Walt Robertson. “For the third consecutive session, we’ve achieved significant increases in gross, average and median accompanied by much lower RNA rates. In general, consignors and buyers both seem pleased with the current marketplace.”
