OLDSMAR, Fla. (January 13, 2009) Kirk Ziadie escorted two of his trainees to the Winner’s Circle today, thereby securing his position as leading Tampa Bay Downs trainer with 12 wins for the current meet.

Ziadie’s first victory came in the seventh race with Summer Party Girl. The four-year-old Florida-bred son of Snuck In is owned by Richard Averill and was ridden by Rosemary Homeister, Jr. Ziadie next saddled Iztaccihuatl to victory, this time with jockey David Cardoso aboard. Iztaccihuatl was bred in Florida by Dr. Michael Marenchic and carries the colors of St. George Stable.

Paco Lopez enjoyed three wins today, beginning with a victory in the program’s opening race aboard African Angel. The three-year-old gelded son of Cape Town was bred in Florida by Nuckols Farm, is owned by Marilyn Kaufman and is trained by Charles Fontana.

Lopez struck again in the third race with Sunsational; Christos Gatis owns and trains the five-year-old Florida-bred son of Concerto. Lopez rounded out his hat trick aboard Tenacious Gator. The five-year-old Cimarron Secret mare was bred in Florida by Francis McDonnell, and was saddled by owner/trainer John Cruise.

Finish Lines… Tampa Bay Downs will host its second annual Skyway Festival Day on Saturday, January 17. Skyway Festival Day is January’s premier day of three-year-old racing at Tampa Bay Downs, featuring the $75,000 Pasco Stakes for three-year-olds and the $65,000 Gasparilla Stakes for three-year-old fillies. Both races will be contested at seven furlongs over the main track and serve as prep races for February 14’s Festival Preview Day.
