Upperline Wins Grey Goose Bewitch as Keeneland Sets Meet Attendance Record
LEXINGTON, KY (April 26, 2012) – Upperline took the lead inside the final furlong and scored a 1½-length victory in the 51st running of the $150,000 Grey Goose Bewitch (G3) before a crowd of 11,253 fans at Keeneland. With one day remaining in Keeneland’s 15-day spring meeting, today’s attendance pushed the season’s total attendance to 251,909, surpassing the previous record 250,163 from the 2011 fall meet.
Ridden by James Graham, Upperline was the 2-1 second choice in the field of eight fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up, racing 1½ miles on the turf course. Breaking from post five, she led her rivals through a leisurely opening quarter of :29.96. By the time the horses crossed the finish with one circuit remaining, Shimmering Moment had taken the lead and ran the first half-mile in :54.01. Senada was in closest pursuit while Graham placed Upperline fourth along the rail.
