Cary Fotias

Cary Fotias is the Founder and President of Equiform, a New York City firm that produces The XTRAS and The SHORTS, handicapping products for evaluating current condition and form cycles. He is also the author of the critically acclaimed handicapping book, Blinkers Off, which describes an innovative numerical approach to form-cycle analysis.

After spending eight years as a currency trader on Wall Street, Fotias has spent the last 16 years as professional handicapper. He is a member of the NTRA Players Panel and was chosen to give a presentation to the Ad Hoc Committee on the Future of New York Racing on behalf of New York horseplayers.

Fotias is a vocal proponent of lower takeouts. He also has a strong interest in the cutting-edge concept of betting exchanges and how they might be developed in the U.S. He feels the game would prosper if it would only adapt to the economic and technological realities of the information age.

Cary Fotias's 'No Limit Handicapping'

In an effort to better serve HRI readers, and not limit Cary Fotias to the California circuit exclusively, Cary will be posting his value plays on various days of the week, at whatever track he deems suitable. So be sure to check out his “No Limit Handicapping” column daily.

Thus far, it has been a rewarding experience. For example, on Saturday, August 9, 2008 (see archives), Cary recommended two plays. His first, the third race from Del Mar, recommended keying (#8) Malibu Canyon, with (#3) Lake Meza, (#4) Fortified and (#7) Cajun Corredor.

Malibu Canyon returned $6.60 straight. The $1 exacta, 8-4, paid $67.20. The $1 8-4-3 trifecta returned $336.30, and the $1 superfecta 8-4-3-7 paid $1,360.50. While these results are not a common occurrence, they are far from atypical. Check back daily and judge for yourself.

Value Galore..

NO LIMIT PLAYS -- SANTA ANITA

Race 1 - Sweet Silence will be overlooked in this 7-furlong Maiden Claimer. Bet small to win and use liberally in exactas and tris underneath.

Race 4 - Hit and Hope is value at 6/1 ML. He ran a bang up race routing on the grass and comes off a New Pace Top for Drysdale..

Race 6 - St. Charbel (15/1 ML) has a punchers chance. Use the favorite, Sanguine in gimmicks.

Race 10 - Wild Diplomat is a steal at 8/1 ML..

Race 11 Easter Born and Toppler both merit strong consideration at 8/1 or better.
