NAPRAVNIK, LAKE AND COLE CAPTURE WINTER MEET TITLES


LAUREL, MD. 04-13-08---The 15-week Laurel Park winter meeting ended today with Rosie Napravnik, Scott Lake and Robert Cole winning individual titles. The 59-day stand began at the central Maryland track on January 1.

Napravnik captured the jockey standings by winning 62 races, 11 more than apprentice Craig Gibbs to secure her first riding title since capturing the 2006 Laurel fall crown. The 20-year-old rode three winners on three occasions and had 19 multiple winning days during the meet. She was the only rider in the colony to earn more than $1 million during the meet. Jeremy Rose was third with 41 first place finishes, while winning at a 32% clip.

LADY DIGBY OUTLASTS MARY LOUHANA TO TAKE DAHLIA STAKES


"LAUREL, MD. 04-12-08---Earle I. Mack’s Lady Digby battled Mary Louhana (GB) tooth and nail down the stretch to win the $80,000 Dahlia Stakes for fillies and mares on the turf at Laurel Park.

These two finished a length-and-quarter apart in their previous meeting when they ran two-three behind 2006 Eclipse Award winner Dreaming of Anna in the Grade III Hillsborough Stakes at Tampa Bay last month. The public decided Lady Digby was the better of the two and sent her to post as the 4-5 favorite. This time, at the end of the one mile Dahlia, they finished just a head apart.

TWO RIDERS INVOLVED IN FIRST RACE SPILL


LAUREL, MD. 04-10-08---Jockeys Ryan Fogelsonger and Geovany Garcia avoided serious injury after both fell hard to the ground after being unseated from their mounts during today's first race at Laurel Park.

Fogelsonger was aboard Bretton in the $10,000 claiming event and battling for the lead when his mount broke down midway down the backstretch. Fogelsonger was sent hurtling to the right of his fallen mount and Garcia, trailing aboard Nic's Amigo, was unseated when his mount crashed head-long into Bretton.
