Delaware Park introduces on-track exacta pool bonuses


Stanton, Del., August 26, 2010 — Beginning September 4, Delaware Park will feature on-track exacta pool bonuses on the Delaware Park live races through the conclusion of the meet on Breeders’ Cup Day November 6.

The take-out for on-track exacta players of Delaware Park races will be reduced from 19% to 10%. The reduced on-track takeout will effectively give winning on-track exacta players a bonus of approximately 10% of the payoff. For example, the return to an on-track player will be approximately $110 for a winning $2 exacta combination with a payout of $100. There will be no effect on the exacta payout for off-track wagers.

Ready Set scores in Eight Thirty Stakes Entry-mate Nicanor finishes sixth


Stanton, Del., August 25, 2010 — Lael Stable’s Ready Set scored an upset victory against his entry-mate, Nicanor, in the $50,700 Eight Thirty Stakes at Delaware Park today.

With Brian Joseph Hernandez aboard, Ready Set chased the early pacesetter Hugo, who set fractions of :45.47 for the half mile and 1:09.20 for the three-quarters mile, before defeating his foe in the final jumps. Tybalt finished third 1 ¼-lengths behind the winner. The mile and seventy yards on a firm turf was run in a course record time of 1:38.93. Nicanor, a full brother to 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, finished sixth of seven. The Ready Set/Nicanor entry returned $3.40.

Lentenor finishes third in first race back after layoff


Stanton, Del., August 24, 2010 — After being away for more than four months since finishing fourth in the Grade I Florida Derby, Lael Stable’s Lentenor, a full brother to 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, returned to racing with third-place finish in a $36,000 at Delaware Park today.

With Jose Valdivia, Jr., aboard he finished 1 ½-lengths behind the winner Inauguration who returned $13.60 as third choice in the field of nine. The final time for the seven and a half furlongs was 1:28.34 over a firm turf course.

Lentenor entered in Delaware Park turf race on Tuesday


Stanton, Del., August 21, 2010 — Lael Stable’s Lentenor, a full brother to 2006 Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, has been entered at Delaware Park on Tuesday. He tops a field of thirteen in a $36,000 allowance going seven and a half furlongs on the grass. The race has been carded as the eighth race with an approximate post time of 4:24p.m.

The 3-year-old son of Dynaformer has not raced since a three race campaign at Gulfstream Park earlier this year. In his last outing, the Kentucky-bred conditioned by Michael Matz finished fourth beaten 5 ¾-lengths in the mile and an eighth $750,000 Grade I Florida Derby at Gulfstream Park on March 20. Previously, he ran second beaten a half length in a mile and an eighth turf allowance on February 17. On January 20, he broke his maiden by 3 ½-lengths in a mile and a sixteenth turf maiden. Last year, he ran twice versus maiden company. He ran third going seven furlongs at Keeneland and then he followed with a second on the turf going a mile and a sixteenth at Aqueduct. He has a career record of a win, two seconds and a third from five starts.

Sweeter Still takes Light Hearted Stakes


Stanton, Del., August 7, 2010 — David Lanzman Racing Stable’s Sweeter Still recorded her first win in nearly two years by notching a victory in the $50,700 Light Hearted Stakes at Delaware Park today.

With Jeremy Rose aboard, the 5-year-old daughter of Rock of Gibraltar won by 1 ¾-lengths and returned $7.40 as the second choice in the field of seven. Aaroness, with Rosie Napravnik, finished second ¾-lengths in front of Reel Victory, with Alberto Delgado. The 7-to-5 favorite, Stormy Dixie with Abel Castellano, Jr., finished fourth 5 ¼-lengths behind the winner.

Life at Ten goes Gate-to-Wire in the Delaware Handicap


Stanton, Del., July 17, 2010 —Candy DeBartolo’s Life at Ten won the $750,000 Grade II Delaware Handicap, the first Breeders’ Cup Challenge qualifier of the year for the $2 million Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic, at Delaware Park today.

The 5-year-old daughter of Malibu Moon ran her winning streak to six straight and her trainer Todd Pletcher equaled the Delaware Handicap record of four for most victories by a trainer. Henry Clark, the trainer for Christiana Stables, won four Delaware Handicaps in 1958 and 1959 with Endine and 1969 and 1970 with Obeah. Todd Pletcher won the Delaware Handicap in 2001 with Irving’s Baby, in 2006 with Fleet Indian and in 2007 with Unbridled Belle.

A She’s Adorable goes for second straight in Robert G. Dick Memorial


Stanton, Del., July 14, 2010 — Phillip Maas’ A She’s Adorable will be seeking her second straight victory against stakes company when she meets nine rivals in the $200,000 Grade III Robert G. Dick Memorial Stakes (include $50,000 from Breeders’ Cup) at Delaware Park this Saturday. The mile and three-eighths turf test is for fillies and mares.

A She’s Adorable is bringing a record of four wins, four seconds, and a third from ten starts with earnings of $160,600 into race. In her last outing, the 4-year-old daughter of Johar posted a 1 ¼-length score in the mile and a sixteenth on the turf $75,000 John Rooney Memorial at Delaware Park on June 19. Previously, the Kentucky-bred, trained by Michael Stidham, ran second beaten a half length in a one mile turf allowance at Arlington Park. This year, her record is two wins, two seconds, and a third from six starts.

Delaware Park Announces 2010 Wall of Fame Inductees


Wilmington, Del., July 14, 2010 — Five of horse racing’s finest were honored today with their induction into the Delaware Park Wall of Fame.

The class of 2010 consists of Obeah, Frank Whiteley, Jr., Angel Cordero, Jr., Bohemia Stable (Mrs. Richard C. DuPont), and Robert G. Dick. Each inductee represents one of the following categories: horse, trainer, jockey, owner, and non-participant, respectively.

Canadian invader Milwaukee Appeal expected to arrive at Delaware Park tomorrow Del ‘Cap engagement


Stanton, Del., July 13, 2010 — The Canadian invader, C. E. C. Farms Milwaukee Appeal will be arriving at Delaware Park from her home base at Woodbine Racetrack late tomorrow afternoon. In her most recent outing, the 4-year-old daughter of Milwaukee Brew finished second beaten a length in the mile and a sixteenth $100,000 Hill N Dale Stakes at Woodbine on June 20. Previously, the Ontario-bred conditioned by Scott Fairlie ran third in the one mile $150,000 Grade II Shuvee Handicap at Belmont Park on May 15. This year, she has a record of a second and a third from two starts.

Milwaukee Appeal could be the most accomplished contender for the Delaware Handicap. She has garnered career earnings of a million plus and last year, she posted a record of two wins, four seconds and two thirds from nine starts including running third beaten a neck in the mile and a quarter Queens Plate at Woodbine and second beaten a nose in the mile and a three-sixteenths Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie, both against the boys, and running second in the mile and a quarter Grade I Alabama Stakes at Saratoga against the girls.

Delaware Handicap News & Notes Obeah winner Miss Singshix returning for Del ‘Cap


Stanton, Del., July 12, 2010 —Team Valor International’s Miss Singhsix, the recent winner of the Grade III Obeah Stakes at Delaware Park, will be returning to Stanton for an engagement in the mile and a quarter Grade II Delaware Handicap this Saturday.

In her last outing, the 5-year-old daughter of Singspiel won the mile and an eighth $150,000 Grade III Obeah Stakes by a nose on June 12. Previously, the Ireland-bred trained by Martin Wolfson finished third to Life At Ten, who she is expected to meet in the Delaware Handicap, in the mile and an eighth $200,000 Grade III Sixty Sails Handicap at Hawthorne Park on April 17. She has a career record of five wins, three seconds and three thirds from 15 starts with earnings of $317,138.

Blind Luck by nose in Delaware Oaks


Stanton, Del., July 10, 2010 — After a thrilling stretch duel Mark DeDomenico, John Carver, Peter Abruzzo and Jerry Hollendorfer’s Blind Luck prevailed by a nose in the final jump to defeat Fox Hill Farm’s Havre de Grace in the $250,000 Grade II Delaware Oaks today.

With Joel Rosario aboard, Blind Luck closed from last after a half mile to get up in the final strides. Havre de Grace finished second. Derwin’s Star, with Jose Valdivia, Jr., cut early fractions of :48.17 for the half mile and 1:12.54 for the three-quarters mile before fading to third nearly 1 ½-lengths behind the top two. The final time for the mile and a sixteenth was 1:43.34 over a sloppy track.

Trickmeister answers all questions with Barbaro victory


Stanton, Del., July 10, 2010 — Brereton Jones and Timothy Thornton’s Trickmeister answered all questions impressively with a front running victory in the $100,000 Barbaro Stakes at Delaware Park today.

After posting impressive victories in his two career starts versus maiden and allowance company, the 3-year-old son of Proud Citizen won going long in the slop versus stakes company for the first time. With Gabriel Saez aboard, the Kentucky-bred trained by Cindy Jones won by 1 ½-lengths and returned $5.60 as the favorite in the field of seven. He posted early fractions of :49.87 for the half mile and 1:14.42 for the three-quarter mile before completing the mile and a sixteenth 1:45.32 over a sloppy track.
