GLOBAL STAGE POSTS 43-TO-1 UPSET ON GOLDEN GATE FIELDS TURF
ALBANY -- Global Stage, who came within a head of posting a 10-to-1 upset at Santa Rosa, scored a 43-to-1 shocker Wednesday at Golden Gate Fields.
Global Stage captured the fifth race as the second-largest price in a field of 10 and paid $88.40. Making his first start on turf, Global Stage rallied strongly under jockey Barrington Harvey to run down favored Count It All Joy and jockey Russell Baze in the final yards of the 1 1/16-mile race.

GOLDEN GATE FIELDS KICKS OFF SIX-DAY RACING WEEK WEDNESDAY
ALBANY -- A six-day racing week that will culminate with a big Labor Day card on Monday begins Wednesday at Golden Gate Fields. Post time throughout the extended week is 12:45 p.m.
Golden Gate Fields will host a "Family Day" celebration on Labor Day that will feature many will free activities for kids (pony rides, bounce houses, face painting and more) and live music by Busta Groove. Fans attending the holiday program will receive a free picnic blanket.

BIG INCREASES IN ATTENDANCE, HANDLE AT GOLDEN GATE FIELDS THROUGH WEEK ONE
ALBANY -- An on-track crowd of 5,517 attended Sunday's racing program at Golden Gate Fields, capping a very successful opening week of the track's summer racing season.
Attendance was up 34 percent from the comparative opening week of 2009, when Golden Gate Fields opened a summer meeting on Aug. 12. On-track handle was up two percent while total handle was up 17 percent.

2011 EL CAMINO REAL DERBY WINNER AT GGF WILL BE ON PATH TO EARN $5.5 MILLION BONUS
ALBANY -- The owners and trainer of the 3-year-old that wins the 2011 El Camino Real Derby at Golden Gate Fields will have achieved the first step toward earning a bonus of $5.5 million.
The El Camino Real Derby, Northern California's premier steppingstone to the Triple Crown events, is part of the new "Preakness 5.5" bonus program created by Golden Gate Fields' parent company, MI Developments Inc., which also owns Santa Anita Park, Gulfstream Park, and Pimlico Race Course.

TRAINER HESS WINS WITH YOUNGSTER, VETERAN AT GGF
ALBANY -- Trainer Bob Hess, still going strong at age 75, saddled a pair of winners at Golden Gate Fields Thursday.
In securing his training double, Hess scored with a youngster and a seasoned veteran.

BAZE BREAKS OUT OF MINI SLUMP ON OPENING DAY AT GOLDEN GATE FIELDS
ALBANY -- Jockey Russell Baze, who went into a mini slump after scoring his historic 11,000th career victory on Aug. 14 at the Sonoma County Fair, came out of his funk Wednesday when Golden Gate Fields kicked off its 2010 summer meeting.
Baze, 1-for-14 since posting his milestone win aboard Separate Forest at Santa Rosa, won three of the first five races on the opening-day program of Golden Gate Fields' 28-day summer session.

GOLDEN GATE FIELDS OPENS 28-DAY SUMMER SEASON
Golden Gate Fields, which has served as a simulcast facility the past two months while the horses made their rounds on the summer fair circuit, will once again offer live racing Wednesday when the track opens its 2010 summer meeting.
The 28-day season will run through Sunday, Oct. 3, and post time is 12:45 p.m. The racing schedule is as follows:

LONGTIME JOCKEY AGENT HACK PASSES AT AGE 81
Robert Hack, a former trainer and longtime jockey agent in Northern California, died peacefully in his sleep Thursday morning at his home in Pleasanton with his family by his side and his 16-year-old dog, Pico, on his bed. Mr. Hack, who had been battling emphysema, was 81.
"He died with his best friend beside him," said Shirley Hack, Mr. Hack's wife of 56 years.

MOREY FAMILY SHINES ON CLOSING-DAY AT GGF
ALBANY -- Golden Gate Fields concluded its 2009-2010 winter/spring meeting with a 10-race program Sunday and the Morey family stole the show.
Trainer William J. Morey, Jr., and his son, trainer William E. Morey, saddled half of the winners on the card as papa Morey won two races and his son recorded a hat trick.

APPRENTICE CEDILLO RIDES BACK-TO-BACK WINNERS
ALBANY -- Apprentice jockey Abel Cedillo won back-to-back races Thursday at Golden Gate Fields.
Cedillo took the fourth race, a one-mile test on the synthetic Tapeta surface, with well-backed Ata Benchmark, who paid $5.60. Cedillo captured the fifth race with 15-to-1 outsider Dancing Duchess, who returned $32.80 after posting a wire-to-wire victory in a one-mile turf contest.

MOGER SADDLES PAIR OF WINNERS AT GGF
ALBANY -- Ed Moger, Jr., saddled two winners Wednesday at Golden Gate Fields and moved into a tie for sixth place in the trainer standings with four days remaining at the 2009-2010 winter/spring meeting.
Moger scored with a pair of 4-to-1 shots, taking the first race with Mark in Monterey ($10.60) and the featured seventh race with Grey Storm ($10.60). Jockey Enrique Gonzalez rode Mark in Monterey and Chad Schvaneveldt piloted Grey Storm.

BUSY CLOSING WEEK AT GOLDEN GATE FIELDS
ALBANY -- The opportunity to take a swing at Belmont Park's mammoth Pick Six carryover kicks off what promises to be an exciting closing week at Golden Gate Fields. Racing will be conducted Wednesday through Sunday and post time is 12:45 p.m. each day.
Golden Gate Fields will present eight live races Wednesday and also give fans the chance to play the Pick Six at Belmont Park, where there is a carryover of $930,495 since no one was able to come up with a perfect ticket last Saturday (Belmont Stakes Day).
