Big Brown Follows Barbaro’s Path to Glory; Gulfstream Handle Hits $1.6M
Big Brown became the century’s third colt to parlay a Florida Derby victory into a Kentucky Derby victory, and the second Florida Derby victor in three years to win the Run for the Roses off the five-week gap between the two Derbys.
Gulfstream Park, the only thoroughbred racetrack in South Florida to take bets on the Kentucky Derby, handled more than $1.63 million through the marquee event of the day. Final figures will be available Monday.

Gulfstream Giveaways on Friday
Gulfstream Park is giving away valuable betting vouchers to racing fans attending Friday’s simulcast at Silks on the first floor.
The area’s finest simulcast facility, Silks opens at 11 and will remain open for wagering on nighttime thoroughbred action.
The giveaways occur every hour, from 12- 5, on Fridays through May, with special drawings on Kentucky Derby Day, May 3, and Preakness Day, May 17.

Hit Movie “First Saturday in May” Premiers at Gulfstream Friday Night
“The First Saturday in May,” an independent film that details the trials and tribulations of Kentucky Derby aspirants while giving an unprecedented look at the families of those involved, makes its South Florida premier Friday night, Derby Eve, at Gulfstream Park.
The movie, which will be shown free of charge on Gulfstream Park’s huge infield board, has opened to rave reviews not only from industry insiders but also from those with limited experience with the sport.
