Hollinger heads Queen’s Plate Winterbook
TORONTO, March 10 - Undefeated three-year-old Hollinger was today installed the early 5-2 favourite for the 151st edition of the Queen's Plate.
Last year, Sam-Son Farm’s Eye of the Leopard rallied in deep stretch to defeat Mr. Foricos Two U and Milwaukee Appeal to take the winner's share of the $1 million purse. The son of A.P. Indy was 40-1 in the Winterbook.

Improving Sam-Son runner tackles 11 in Risen Star
TORONTO, February 19 - Sam-Son Farm's homebred Hotep seeks his second straight score in Saturday's Grade 2, $300,000 Risen Star Stakes at the Fair Grounds in Louisiana.
The Risen Star is a critical prep for the Louisiana Derby, which is in turn a major prep for the Kentucky Derby. With just one stakes winner in the group of 12, the field is filled with developing horses trying to demonstrate where they belong - just like Hotep.

Horse Racing’s Half-Million Dollar Man
TORONTO, February 17 - Canadian handicapper Brian Troop will attempt to capture his second straight six-figure bonanza this weekend, when he competes in the prestigious Horse Player World Series at The Orleans Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
The tournament features an estimated top prize of $337,500. It kicks off Thursday and runs for three days, concluding on Saturday, February 20.

Woodbine 2010 stakes schedule unveiled
TORONTO, February 11 - One hundred and three stakes races, worth over $22 million in purses, will highlight Woodbine's 167-day Thoroughbred meet in 2010.
The Woodbine stakes schedule, unveiled today by the Woodbine Entertainment Group (WEG), offers a July date, its first since 1996, for the 151st running of the Queen's Plate. The 1 1/4-mile event, which carries a $1 million purse, is set for Sunday, July 4.

Stakes double at Santa Anita for Sutherland
TORONTO, January 17 - Woodbine rider Chantal Sutherland tallied her second graded stakes score in as many days in Sunday's Grade 2 El Encino at Santa Anita Park in California.
Sutherland and her mount Pretty Unusual prevailed by 1 1/4 lengths over 2008 Breeders' Cup Juvenile champion Stardom Bound.

WEG pleased with big handle rise in 2009
Toronto, December 9 - Woodbine Entertainment Group is pleased to announce that betting on Woodbine's 2009 live Thoroughbred meet, which concluded December 6, was up seven per cent over last year.
The "all-sources" total of $361,435,208 was wagered during the 167-day meet, which began April 4, compared to the $337,660,570 recorded from the 167 dates offered in 2008, an impressive 7.0 per cent overall rise.

Bear’s Hard Ten dominates in Display
TORONTO, December 5 – Bear’s Hard Ten, at odds of 5-2, captured his first added-money win in style with an easy 3 ¾-length score in Saturday's $150,000 Display Stakes at Woodbine.
For the bay two-year-old, the victory, in his two-turn and stakes debut, was his second from four career starts. Second was slight favourite Giant’s Tomb, while Redverse was third.

David S. Willmot to step down as Woodbine Entertainment Group CEO
TORONTO, December 4, 2009 - At a meeting of the Woodbine Entertainment Group Board of Directors today, David S. Willmot announced his intention to step down as Chief Executive Officer at the Company's next Annual General Meeting on June 4, 2010.
Mr. Willmot will continue to serve as Chairman of the Board.

‘Less is more in the Ontario Lassie
TORONTO, November 29 - Donald Ross charge Resentless led from gate to wire in Sunday's $150,000 Ontario Lassie Stakes at Woodbine.
In capturing the 1 1/16-mile event by 5 1/4 lengths, the Ontario-foaled two-year-old stamped herself as a filly to watch on the road to next season's Woodbine Oaks.
After establishing easy fractions of :25.24 and :49.57, the daughter of Trajectory opened up a three-length lead inside the eighth pole and cruised home an easy winner, under Chantal Sutherland.
