Europeans to Win Out? A Possibility
(SANTA ANITA – 2:35 pm, Saturday, November 7, 2009) If the European-based horses win one out of the two races left, which is entirely possible, that will give them four race won today. Added to yesterday’s two victories, the possibility would make six winners in two days of Breeders’ Cup racing – two more than allowed by the percentage of runners entered. Based on the numbers, the Euros should win four and the Americans 10.
Already, you are beginning to hear said that it’ll be years before the Breeders’ Cup returns to Santa Anita. American owners don’t like losing when they’re hosting the event. Results like we’re having here suggests that maybe we’re doing things right. For example, no raceday medications such as Lasix and Bute are permissible in the rest of the world.
The longshot Furthest Land, owned by Ken and Sarah Ramsay, won the Dirt Mile to give an East Cost-based horse a rare victory. Furthest Land was two for two on synthetic tracks with triumphs at Turfway and Keeneland. The competition returns to turf for the next race. Could it be an all-Euro trifecta of Conduit, Dar Re Mi and Spanish Moon? Quite likely, unless Presious Passion doesn’t stop.
