Vic Zast’s column Voting for the Eclipse Awards “From-the-Bottom-Up” drew a lot of interest, so we’re bringing the discussion to our forum.

We pose this general question to our readers.....

Should racing fans have a voice in Eclipse Award voting?

Absolutely, the fans should have a vote in the Eclipse Awards. Right now as we speak, almost every writer or blogger for any major horseracing web-site or magazine already have Rachael Alexandra as HOY. I say that can’t be decided until the B.C. Classic is over. What if Zenyatta win’s the Classic? I know Rachael has beaten males 3 times, but quite frankly Summer Bird is the only real good male she’s beaten. I know people say Macho Again, a good horse, very game, but look at his lifetime numbers. He’ s not nearly as good as the male’s Zenyatta will face in the Classic. You tell me when will Rachael Alexandra ever in the same race will face the likes of Rip Van Winkle, Einstein, Gio Ponti, Quality Road, Summer Bird, Colonel John, Twice Over, Richard’s Kid, and possibly even Mastercraftsman. I doubt Rachael Alexandra will ever race even two of these horses in the same race. Wouldn’t it be almost criminal if Zenyatta does win the Classic against a super group of males like these, finish her career at 14-0, and not , at the very leas be co-HOY?
