None of the last 70 quarterbacks drafted in the last six years has been left-handed, according to NFL.com. In fact not many lefty QBs find their way to the NFL. The SEC had a run of talent in the early 2000s with Kentucky’s Jared Lorenzen and Georgia’s David Greene before Tim Tebow’s Heisman and two national titles. There were high hopes for Malik Zaire at Notre Dame before breaking his leg in 2015 and losing the job to DeShone Kizer. He’s still looking for a new school after leaving South Bend at the end of last season. So where does that leave Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa? For openers, he is not a natural left-hander. His father, 5-foot-9 Galu Tagovailoa was a power lifter who played defensive line, was a lefty. And like Phil Mickelson, a natural right-hander, pops switched Tua to a left-hander. Prior to Ken Stabler’s arrival to Alabama, legendary coach Bear Bryant once stated, “I never trusted left-handed crap shooters or left-handed quarterbacks.” Wonder what he would think of Tagovailoa today, soon to be the NFL’s next southpaw slinger.
