From our personal stash come several Horses to Watch in action today:
In today’s 5th race at Laurel, a maiden allowances for 2-year-olds going a mile, one of the horses with experience is Saar’s Image (12-1). He’s jumping up in class and going turf to dirt for a barn that’s better 2nd time out and profitable in this turf scenario. The note:
“Very rank starting gate, finished strongly in deep stretch, galloped out very well, look for big improvement next out…”
Lucky Curlin (7-2), Churchill Downs Race 7: At SPA “Appears to want distance, showed speed from the gate, took back noticeably, re-rallied, classic Z pattern, finishing very well too late.” [start two]
His 47 2/5 breeze on NOV 3 5th fastest of 162 peers to work that week.
Blockbuster (8-1), Race 7, Gulfstream Park West “Showed immense potential on 9/13 at Kentucky Downs, much the best horse!”
We follow our horses with win bets the next time the next three times they race or until they win within that period. If either of those parameters are met, they are removed from the list.

I know that`s a little too late but i`m not Monday Morning Quarterbacking when i state that ‘Nonno`s,Granpa System’ given to me by an older gentleman when i asked him if he had ‘learned’ anything about his horse racing/betting experience in his lifetime had ,again ,produced a cold exacta and a triple. “It works ! ” he said. Among the illusional, lying crowds of gamblers/bettors he was the only one who knew what he was saying and like the late Mitchell wrote in one of his precious books on horse racing if You find a system, way to profit don`t tell anyone because NO ONE will ever believe you ,and worse yet, will only think of you as a loser, dreamer,,worse than he himself might be… Read many books on handicapping, speed, faster finish, weight,Beyers,TV, etc from T.Ainslie to Quinn,Brohamer etcc and no one was more instructive, concise and precise than that older gentleman. Has anyone of you learned, changed anything on your ‘handicapping, whatever that means today with simulcasting and TMI which to me does not compare to my better days of race watching/betting up until 1990 circa when we had time to read/absorb a race before we bet on it ?? Besides sites like this one, newspapers do not help or encourage the sport as in the days when i`d make my own ‘consensus’ from the main ‘Experts’ of that era[ Harris,Pricci,DRf consensus plus my ‘Numbers’. It was fun, especially with the better allowance and graded races. Now it`s just another reason not to buy a paper,,there`s nothing there,,x $ 2 a copy. Remember when the All News radio station would give Aquaduct results? Today it it was not not for the ‘Casino Connections’ i wonder how many tracks would be standing on their own, from Mountaneer,W V. to Delaware and Yonkers.. They`ve become ‘adjuncts’ ,like a piece of bread next to a plate of Chicken Parmigiana,,,just to suck the juice, sauce out. So long.
James, interesting comment although I’d like perhaps a summary; not quite sure of the point you were trying to make. As an obvious student of the game, I respect what you have to say.
Apparently, because “it works,’ you haven’t shared the ‘Granpa’ system. That’s your right, of course, not wanting to hurt the price, etc. etc.
As for people like myself, or Mr. Harris, we are ‘public handicappers.” The game has given us a living and as such we are bound to share what we know, what has worked for us, and the like.
That’s the spirit of this post today, anyway, and we’ll see how it turns out. Keeps us engaged; no devil’s workshop for us!
