The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

BORN IN THE USA

By Marc Lawrence — The Conference-USA has developed an outstanding tradition of quarterbacks throughout its history. And like last year, 2020 could mark one of the deepest, most experienced groups of signal-callers in years with as many as 9 C-USA teams returning starters from last season. Last year’s C-USA Co-First team QB Chris Robison of Florida Atlantic returns possessing 6,241 passing yards, 40 TDs, 18 INTs and a passing Efficiency Rating of 142.40 in two seasons with the Owls. Meanwhile, the 2020 All-Conference USA Team features 13 selections from UAB, followed by WKU up next at 12 picks. Three other teams – Charlotte, FIU and Southern Miss – check in with double-digit selections with 10 picks, while with defending champion FAU Owls feature eight players on the All-Conference squad. Trending Today

As several NBA teams traveled to Florida on yesterday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver expressed concern that potential positive coronavirus cases following quarantine inside the league’s campus setup will reveal “in essence a hole in our bubble.” Silver said any significant amount of positive cases inside the protected campus could result in a second shutdown of the NBA season. “We won’t be surprised when they first come down to Orlando if we have some additional players test positive,” said Silver. “What would be most concerning is once players enter this campus and then go through our quarantine period, then if they were to test positive or if we were to have any positive tests, we would know we would have an issue.”

Grinding Out The Profits

2020 PLAYBOOK Football Preview Guide magazine reports: Texas head coach Tom Herman is entering Year Four with the Longhorns and after losing 15 games the previous three seasons, he went all-in on a coaching staff overhaul this offseason, with six new assistants. Meanwhile, senior QB Sam Ehlinger is the sixth Power 5 Conference player in the last 20 years to pass for at least 25 TDs and rush for at least 15 TDs in the same season. The other five have won the Heisman Trophy. With that, Herman needs to kick this team in the butt.
