TIDE ROLLS TO #1 RANKING

By Marc Lawrence — It’s official. Alabama is No. 1 in The Associated Press college football poll for the first time this year, extending its record of consecutive seasons with at least one week on top of the rankings to 13. Notre Dame moved up two spots to No. 2 after upsetting Clemson in a dramatic double-overtime game Saturday night. Ohio State remained No. 3. Clemson gave up the top spot for the first time this season and landed at No. 4. As expected, the Power 5 conferences dominate the rankings with the SEC holding down 5 spots (1, 5, 6, 13, 24), followed by the Big Ten and the Big 12 with 4, the ACC with 3, the Pac-12 and the American and the Sun Belt each with 2, and the CUSA with 1. Trending Today

Legendary television host Alex Trebek of Jeopardy! has died after his battle with pancreatic cancer. Trebek, who was 80, hosted the quintessential quiz show for 37 years and nearly 8,000 episodes, and won 35 Emmy Awards and a Peabody. Trebek was an avid sports fan and also owned race horses. He recently announced the Ottawa Senators first-round pick in this year’s NHL draft. Sports also became a big “Jeopardy!” storyline last year, when sports bettor James Holzhauer won more the $2.4 million over 33 games. Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers said, “6 PM weeknight will never be the same. So many great memories.” As Jeopardy! Sports put it: “This Game Show Host Will Always Be The Greatest To Ever Do It, And Jeopardy Will Never Be The Same Without Him”. Amen.

Grinding Out The Profits

From this week’s PLAYBOOK Football Newsletter: The low-flying NY Jets are 0-8 for the first time since 1996. They are also 1-7 ATS and 0-8 ITS (In The Stats) this season, not to mention 1-4 SUATS in their last five Monday Night appearances. On the flip side, New England is 6-1 SU and 5-1-1 ATS in its last six Monday night division games, while Bill Belichick has never lost the game or the money (4-0 SUATS) in this series when coming off a loss. Just sayin’.
