When is the Pegasus World Cup 2023?

The Pegasus World Cup 2023 Invitational Series of horse racing will kick off on Saturday, January 28 at Florida’s iconic Gulfstream Park. The horse racing series will have a prize package of $4.5 million up for grabs.

The Pegasus World Cup 2023 will feature some of the biggest names in horse racing, including Cyberknife. White Abbario and Simplification are also set to run the elite horse race in Florida. 

What is the Pegasus World Cup 2023? 

The Pegasus World Cup 2023 is an invite-only series of horse races that take place each year at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. The race has taken place annually since it debuted in 2017. The Pegasus World Cup is the event’s biggest and richest race. It is worth $3m. Horses run a 1- and 1/8-mile course completely on dirt. 

In addition to the Pegasus World Cup 2023, the event will host the Pegasus World Cup Turf race. The event is also run along a 1- and 1/8-mile course on a grass turf surface. The World Cup races are contested by horses four-years-old and older. 

One of the most significant aspects of the event is that it is invite-only. Therefore, the event will see some of the world’s best horses running throughout the incredible event. Along with the two World Cup races, the Pegasus Filly and Mare Turf will also take place. The Filly and Mare race will pay out an incredible $500,000 in prize money. 

Who won the Pegasus World Cup 2022?

Colonel Liam has won two straight World Cup Turf races. The horse will try for a third straight win in the turf event. 

Irad Ortiz Jr is the most successful jockey in the horse race’s existence. Ortiz Jr picked up the wins in 2020 and 2022. Famed horse trainer Bob Baffert has won two Pegasus World Cup races. He won more World Cups than any other horse trainer, with the victories coming in 2017 and 2020. 

Who is running the Pegasus World Cup 2023?

Cyberknife is currently the biggest name in horse racing likely to run the Pegasus World Cup 2023. The reigning Arkansas Derby winner is the headline horse for the dirt race. In 2022, Cyberknife finished runner-up at the 2022 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile and the Travers Stakes. Along with winning the Arkansas Derby Cyberknife won the Haskell Stakes.

White Abbario won the Florida Derby and is likely to be invited to the exclusive race. Simplification picked up the win in the Fountain of Youth. The horse is also likely to participate in the Pegasus World Cup. 

Colonel Liam could be on hand in Gulfstream to Park in an attempt to win a third straight turf race. A third straight win on the turf would set a new record. Colonel Liam prepped in the Fort Lauderdale in December finishing sixth.
