The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

TAKING A LONGER CD OPTION

If we wanted to play it safer in Wednesday’s optional claiming N2X at 7 furlongs in Derbytown but it’s too late to stop now.

The obvious choice would be recent Peter Miller claim Curate (9-2). He’s 29% profitable first time off the claim. Haltered for $50K on OCT 12, he’s worked four times since, taps Corey Lanerie, a perennial CD leader and 2-for-5 when hooking up recently and Miller is only 3-for-6 at the meet.

But we’ll take Kowboy Karma who will fall well short of his 12-1 ML but is solid win choice in the day’s feature. His Thoro-Graph figures going back are competitive with the field’s fastest, his outside post and big kick suits today’s dynamics with Larry Jones barn regular Gabriel Saez aloft.

As opposed to Curate, ‘Kowboy’ is 2-for-6 over the surface whereas the Miller trainee seeks his first win in his fourth try. Further, Curate lacks experience at the trip. ‘Kowboy’ owns a (4) 1-1-1 slate at t furlongs. Of course, Miller magic just might get him that far.

Regardless, taking Kowboy Karma to win at 5-1 or greater and boxing an exacta with Curate.

SATURDAY RESULTS: At Aqueduct Sarah was anything but Sassy in an awful performance as the favorite. At Churchill, Jose waited too long and entered the stretch too wide to do any better than third, costing us a decent score. We boxed an exacta with Mr. Misunderstood, extraordinary value at 9-2, and was split. Fortunately, at the price, we took a small saver win wager on the early line favorite and, stating we want all of the 3-1 ML on Admission Office, we passed at 6-5. Hope you did, too.
