Over recent years, the need for more information has been welcomed with open arms, looking for alternatives beyond the usual polls and getting a closer look at how teams are performing on a weekly basis as the arms race for the College Football Playoff tightens. ESPN’s Bill Connelly monitors the SP+ ratings, a metric for determining the “most deserving” teams or misleading resumes based on wins, losses and other numbers that lack context. Grinding Out The Profits

Despite not playing last week, the undefeated SMU Mustangs are up to No. 19 in this week’s AP poll. They entered the poll at No. 24 last week the first time they’ve been ranked since 1986 — before the NCAA’s death penalty crippled the program for decades. The Mustangs have used the “transfer market” to fuel their long awaited resurgence to return to the Top 25.
