The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

ANOTHER BAD BEAT

Sorry, but need to vent here. Didn’t make a big deal out of a long-nose defeat in yesterday’s opener of the Royal Ascot meet at 21-1.

A quinella took some of the sting out of it–though not really.

Today’s nose loss, even though we saw the Queen Mary winner about 25 minutes away at Gulfstream Park–and we’re happy that America’s Crimson Advocate won it for George Weaver and Johnny–Relief Rally, a bit obstreperous pre-race, had the lead a jump before and after the wire, but lost on the re-bob.

Yes, an exacta, quinella, and swinger were cashed–but these were four-horse boxes, and we made a sizable win bet on Relief Rally, so impressive a turn of foot she showed to win her prior start, was hard to swallow.

And it’s too early for cocktails, though it is about 3 pm over there. Sorry about this… dammit!
