The New York Racing Association announced Wednesday that the Belmont Park Fall meeting will begin on September 6, and run through October 27, but the meeting will shift to Aqueduct on October 11, to accommodate construction of the New York Islanders Arena at Belmont.
Belmont’s fall stakes schedule consists of 45 stakes worth a total of $11,525,000 in purses. Aqueduct’s fall meeting will begin November 1, and run 22 days through December 1. The 2019-20 Aqueduct winter meeting begins December 5.
New York Arena Partners expect to break ground this summer and a major step in that direction occurred Monday when New York State’s Empire Development Corporation certified the Final Environmental Impact Statement.
After a 15-day comment period, which ends July 23, the ESD will approve the project. Expected approvals from the Franchise Oversight Board and the Public Authorities Control Board will soon follow.
