With Saturday’s announcement that Sunday’s races will be taken off the turf, we went in search of a large field looking for chaos and, as happened earlier this week, we came down to two but, with any luck, we can beat a favorite here.
Katie Faloona (4-1) and Upper Charlize Ds (5-1) exit the same 7-furlong sprint and are stretching to two turns here. While fourth finishing ‘Katie’ was outfinished by ‘Charlize’, we think the former has reasons to turn the tables here.
After checking the Tampa Bay Today Video replay (RACE 5, APR 8) we noted Katie lost considerable ground while her rival had it easier to that point. Both were mounting a rally at headstretch but ‘Katie’ altered course down to the fence where perhaps she was intimidated by Charlize to her outside.
Further, she figures to improve with added distance for trainer Joe Mazza, profitable with horses making their second starts for him and when stretching from sprint to route. The switch to Wilmer Garcia, who has a nice touch with two-turn runners, augurs well.
We’re taking Katie Faloona straight, 3-1 minimum, and key-boxing exactas with Upper Charlize Ds and early line favorite with Gallardo, dropdown Jost Dreamy (3-1).

Your selection, Katie Faloona, figures; but, I’m gonna put a bob or three on Mighty Frosty #1.
But of course, it’s Sunday, and all are entitled to a Frosty Fosters…
