BOB BAFFERT STATEMENT TO PRESS ON MEDINA SPIRIT DRUG ALLEGATION

“All I can tell you is betamethasone is an allowed therapeutic medication, but we did not give it to this horse. In fact, Medina Spirit has never been treated with betamethasone. I cannot believe that I am here before you guys. Yesterday, I got the biggest guy punch in racing for something I did not do.

“I don’t feel embarrassed, I feel like I was wronged. We’re going to show them everything. One thing about it in California, everything is documented every day what the horse gets. He’s a great horse, he didn’t deserve this. He ran a gallant race.

“I always had good procedures. Everything we did, like with Justify, I couldn’t have prevented that. He just ingested hay. The Arkansas, the lidocaine, we thought it was possible that with Jimmy [Barnes] with the patches, but it turns out there were other horses contaminated that day, so it wasn’t Jimmy.

“So we’ve always been upfront with everybody, we’ve been very transparent, anything we do. Gamine, I was always transparent. We showed the vet records. We’re gonna’ show the vet records. We’re gonna’ show them everything. They’re not going to see betamethasone.”
