The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Don’t really think that 9-2 will be available ante post but if it is, the prospects of a play on Bonita Bianca is more than tempting in Thursday’s featured Union Avenue at the Spa.

First, it’s Jason Servis, Second, it’s Jason Servis on a turnback. Third, it’s Jason Servis reaching out for one of his favorite New York men, Irad Ortiz Jr.; they are 31% when they hook up.

…And Ortiz won with 10 of his last 35 rides through Sunday.

As for the New York-bred filly, she carries a Spa record of (2) 1-1-0 and won her only start at today’s hybrid distance–this very race last year! She rolls here in here 80 days fresh, so she’s been clearly pointed toward this.

She’s tactical and can finish, with more than enough early gas signed on to provide targets until Irad decides to push the button.

We’re taking her to win, will grudgingly accept 5-2, but 3-1 or 7-2 looks about right, and we’ll key-box exactas, price dependent, of course, using deserving favorite Holiday Disguise (5-2) and Pauseforthecause (8-1), whose been effective going turf to dirt and also turning back.

YESTERDAY: Kimari (1-4) was ridden extremely confidently by Johnny, took on the second filly who loomed entering but this filly drew off, stick down, and galloped out very well. Abscond (6-1) completed exacta.

  1. Another race were several sprinters could win. Another race that Mr. Jicha and Mr. Pricci would consider ‘a good betting race’. To me, as ya’all know, a good betting race is a race where you can narrow it down to two or three entrants; try doing this in this race. As I see it, Bonita Bianca doesn’t figure at all, but what do I know?

I’m gonna put a few bobs on Holiday Disguise, hoping that Baby Boss stumbles, goes wide, and Ortiz falls off.
