WILD ON ICE EUTHANIZED

April 27, 2023) – Frank Sumpter’s Sunland Derby (GIII) winner Wild On Ice sustained a catastrophic injury to his left hind leg upon pulling up following a five furlong workout for next Saturday’s Kentucky Derby and was euthanized as a result of his injury.

The mishap occurred this morning just before 6 a.m. at Churchill Downs.

Wild On Ice was evaluated at the Churchill Downs Equine Medical Center and was subsequently transported to Lexington to an equine surgical facility for further evaluation, where the determination was made due to the nature of the injury.

Wild On Ice’s defection will allow Santa Anita Derby (GI) third-place finisher Skinner into the Kentucky Derby field.
