By Marc Lawrence, PlaybookSports.com — Five-Thirty-Eight Sports reports that of the 80 teams seeded at Nos. 7 or 8 over the past 20 years only 4 of them won a first round series, and this year’s crop of play-in participants does not appear to be notably stronger than the teams that typically occupy those seeds.
Worse, the Well Oiled Machine notes the No. 7 and 8 seeds are 169-237-14 ATS (41.6%) in these games, including 13-33-3 ATS when coming off consecutive wins.
Buyer beware.
