By Marc Lawrence, PlaybookSports.com — It’s been reported that the struggling Patriots have a “home run hire” whenever New England moves on from Bill Belichick. The New York Post reported that Mike Vrabel of the Tennessee Titans would be Robert Kraft’s choice. There is an increasing likelihood that Belichick could be on his way out from the Patriots and his seat is getting hotter. Sunday’s 20-17 home loss to a Commanders team that just traded away two of its best defensive players — Montez Sweat and Chase Young – did not help the cause and left the Patriots with a 2-7 record. In an ironic twist, the same Commanders reportedly would be interested in hiring Belichick should he become available. The problem is the Titans extended Vrabel’s contract in 2022 for “years to come”, and Belichick reportedly signed a lucrative extension this year. Vrabel has close ties to the Patriots since he played for New England from 2001-08, winning three Super Bowls in that time. He recently journeyed to Foxborough during the Titans’ bye week to be inducted into the Patriots’ Hall of Fame.
