The search for a multi-race exotic symbol on Thursday at Gulfstream Park begins and ends in the sixth race where the Christophe Clement-trained Harper’s in Charge rates to be a very tough out. Whether handicappers are willing to take even money on her is their decision but her early line quote is deserving.
It’s not that her figures lay over the field–they are very good but do not provide a significant edge–it’s the fact that she owns a versatile running style and figures to benefit from today’s cut-back in trip after three attempts in longer turf sprints.
All those efforts were vs. tougher fillies in New York. She has shown speed and held well but her most effective run came at her shortest distance to date and her rally nearly won it as she surged up the fence to lose by less than a length. Check out her Spa effort on SEP 4, Race 4.
Drawn outside here and picking up Gulfstream leading rider Luis Saez should ensure a favorable trip. We’re taking her straight with no price restrictions and keying her in quinellas and trifectas with Baby Mo (6-1) and War Star (9-2).
