The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

If you have never heard the late Harvey Pack’s “coupled horses theory, it goes like this:

When two horses exiting the same race who finish close to one another return for a rematch, try to find a good reason to take the longer price in that exit encounter.

Today’s finale in Oldsmar is a solid test of that theory, and we’re going all in.

When last they met, Barberini (2-1) and Panadero (3-1) finished a half length apart, with the former winning and latter the runnerup.

Actually, the trips were not easy for either. Barberini was unable to save ground but had clear and clean sailing all the way, clearly outkicking his rival late. Panadero was able to drop over to the fence but had to await his chance to rally.

With the former racing for Team Delacour/Centeno and breaking from the rail, he will be a strong favorite. Panadero is drawn widest in post 10, assuming at least, playable odds. See what you think; Tampa Bay Downs, FEB 20, Race 7.

We look for Samy Camacho to be a little more patient with this Horse for Course (5) 2-2-0,, make the last run, take advantage of the mini-stretch to his winning distance and the four-pound weight pull in his favor.

Taking Panadero to win at 3-1 or greater and an exacta box with the favorite.
