By Marc Lawrence, PlaybookSports.com — The San Francisco 49ers report that Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy, is back in training camp and taking snaps following last season’s UCL surgery in March.
LegitFootball.com reports that Purdy is on a “pitch count” and will be taking every third day off from throwing. He is scheduled to make his debut today.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Purdy will work with the starting unit, ahead of Trey Lance and Sam Darnold.
The Niners made a huge investment when they traded up to land Lance with the 3rd pick in the 2021 draft.
“It’s because what he put on tape was real, and that’s what makes it easy, the situation we’re in,” said Shanahan.
“Injuries happen. And when injuries happen, you don’t really lose your job because of an injury, but you give opportunities to someone else.
“And this guy, who got his opportunity, came in and did stuff on film for me, for John, for all our players, that was as good as we’ve seen here. And it’s going to be real hard to beat out.”
