BROWER IN THE BIKE-FRI

By Dave Brower, Meadowlands Handicapper – Friday, November 13, 2020

RACE 1

1   POP POP JOE – Didn’t make much of an impact upon return. Sometimes it does take a race to get used to the mile track again. Draws a good post and should be sitting closer. Let’s see if Pop kicks in with more late. Maybe.

2   GOOD DAY MATE – Have to admit, he’s racing well, but in the last two he clearly lacked a strong-enough finish. Jimmy F has had him in position, but the rally wasn’t as good as it was back in October. Price is always low. Go against now?

3   BADIX HANOVER – That wicked speed try two back must have taken something out of him. Looked pretty flat last week. Brings his 0-12 record this year into tonight’s event and would need a big rebound. Can’t always count on that.

4   WALKS OF LIFE – This is a prime spot to reach winner’s circle again. The post basically ruined chances last out. Prior efforts were strong. Marianna has been on quite the roll lately and she should have Walks in prime stalking position.

5   FRANKANDJOANNE – Another one that just never seems to win. Definitely a longshot again, even with Roy M on.

6   GRANDPA DON – Sure enough, as soon as a bailed on Don, he romped home, given a nice rallying trip and drive from Mitch. Joe Lee hops aboard now and he can read the program. It’s ALL about pace and trip. If close enough, can repeat.

7   BLUEBIRD GOLDWYN – Retains his large longshot status. In need of major wakeup call to get any closer. Pass.

8   WAR DADDY – 0-9 this year. Gets stuck with another tough post. Really had no chance last week, with #10 controlling things up front. But, what’s going to be different from this slot? I do see some speed. Might be time for John C to send.

9   TAILGUNNER HANOVER – Loved to see the Gunner bring his “A” game last week! Unfortunately, he’s not exactly “rewarded” for that effort with this post. It’s going to hurt. We may have to wait for a better spot on down the road.

10 WATCHMENEIGHNEIGH – I don’t think any of us “got the memo” on this gelding last week, but The Judge sure did! Right to the front and right down the road with plenty left. Can he get to the lead from post 10? That is the question.

Race 2

1   MARLOE HANOVER – She’s gotten good again, but had absolutely no chance in Indiana. Loved to see that 25 and change speed, but she did tire after that. This is a prep for next week, so easier journey coming. Sits and saves.

2   BIRCH ISLAND BETTY – Seems to have rounded into form quite nicely up north, so why not a big track try? Seems like a stalker, so the inner post should keep close enough. Let’s see what she’s made of! Will have to stalk and trip-out.

3   BETTORS HEART N – Supposedly this is a former Group 1 winner down under. Making North American debut tonight for top connection. Can she be fully primed and ready off just one qualifier? I’m going to guess no. Needs another.

4   MACHNHOPE – Top mare has been racing her eyeballs out for a long time. We don’t see her here too much, but she deserves respect. Even had a try against Highalator! This is more like it. She fits and should be flashing speed.

5   SWEET LUCY LOU – Was vicious in both starts here. So good, they took a shot and threw her into the Crown. Picked up a check at 70-1 in the final too! That’s not bad. Another that likes to stalk and rally. Will pace be hot enough?

6   STONEBRIDGE SOUL – She’s been getting beat up all year tackling the very top mares and it’s just not working out. Seems long overdue to have something go right, but I suggest you get a fair price if you think it’s tonight. Good luck!

7   RACINE BELL – Very, very tough spot for the 3YO, that gets in via alternate condition. Non-winners of 11 races. I can see that she’s sharp, but do you really put her in the same league with these? I have to see it to believe it.

8   CAVIART ALLY – And lastly, what do we do with Ally tonight? She hasn’t come back to her best form yet, and those Crown efforts were a bit lackluster. It’s probably time to send her to the top, just to see what we have. Tough call.
