Meadowlands Handicapper Dave Brower’s Meadowlands Pace Profile–Saturday JULY 17:
1 ROLL WITH JR – Made it into the final, which is always a good thing, but he will need a LOT more than that to cash.
2 CATCH THE FIRE – I was very intrigued by his Elim effort. After a rough shuffle, he had to swing widest and made up a
TON of ground to insure his spot in the final. It caught my eye. This is Mike’s first Med Pace. Take a shot, sir!
3 CAPTAIN BARBOSSA – Sears took the conservative route in the Elim and it worked out nicely. Don’t know if I’ve ever
seen a horse pace home in 25, change in three straight races. He did! Has to get a little lucky, but Sears did last year!
4 ALLYWAG HANOVER – Allywag impressed me, and anybody else who was watching in that downpour down at Philly.
Pelling an absolute master at getting one ready for THIS race, and he’s got two. This one got the better post. Overbet?
5 TALL DARK STRANGER – He’s looked nothing short of sensational each time he’s stepped onto the track. Even tried
something “new” on the lead last week. He saw the other horse, and dug in as expected. Drew perfect post. 1 to beat.
Trainer: “Class act colt that does his job the best he’s able to, every time he races. Trained back really nice after the
elim. Going to be an exciting race for sure!”
6 MANTICORE – I really like the way he finished last week. That sneaky kind of kick, but something left in the tank. Yes,
he will need a little luck too, but anything can happen in our signature race. Needs the right kind of flow setup. Trainer:
Last week was right recipe for Saturday. Needs a lot of things to go his way, but capable.
7 CAPT MIDNIGHT – Gets lucky to “scratch in” to the final. Endured an impossible trip last week, so don’t be too hard on
him. Remember, this was A Mac’s choice over the stablemates. On Lasix now. Will he try to leave again? That is the ??.
8 MAJOR BETTS – Perhaps the most disappointing of the finalists last week. Why he had no pop, I don’t know. Very rare
for this extremely-talented colt. He got no love from the post gods either. What’s Dexter going to do? Wish I knew.
9 PAPI ROB HANOVER – Probably the biggest case of the bad post blues! So far, it just seems things haven’t gone right
for this colt yet. But, as said with #4, nobody better than BP in this race. Horse will be ready, but can he get close enuf?
10 CAPTAIN KIRK – This was the most surprising horse from last week! Man, was he good! And Joe B put an absolutely
perfect drive on him. However, what kind of magic can he possibly spring from post 10? That’s why I made him 15-1.
