The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

BROWER IN THE BIKE-SAT

By Dave Brower, Meadowlands Handicapper – Saturday, November 7

Race 1

1   ROCKIN MEDICINE – That really wasn’t a bad try last time, from the rough post. I know he’s just 1-19 lifetime, but he does fit in a field like this. Don’t be afraid to use him in some spots at the expected nice price.

2   DOUBLEAGENTMAN – Also gets some much-needed post relief. Recently went on Lasix too! It’s not an easy spot, but I would expect a touch of improvement. The perfect Eric A longshot!

3   HOLY MOMENT – Been just fair of late over at Pocono. I’m going to keep him on the longshot list for now. Pass.

4   ATOMIC BLAST N – Definitely “needed” the race last week, after missing a month, like many from this barn. But, he also made a break and that’s an issue. I guess I’d like to see a positive effort before I could endorse again.

5   CLAYTONS BETTOR N – Made a big, good-looking move into that uncatchable monster last week, and couldn’t sustain it. It was still a solid try and Lasix definitely helped. Could be even stronger here, with No Aces Rock around.

6   RUTHLESS HANOVER – Invades from PA for the brothers and they find a pretty good spot. Nap knows the horse well, and won a minor stake with him earlier. He has shown versatile speed in the past. I wouldn’t talk you off tonight.

7   BAYONET – Had a rough go of it in his introduction to Big M racing. Don’t hold that against him. With that said, speed seems to be his only weapon. We can’t have that park-out happen again. Don’t know what to expect from out here.

8   WELL DONE SON – Really mixed feelings about him too! Broke behind the gate down at Philly and quickly returns here. But, his starts here were somewhat questionable. He’s got zero early speed. This will be a “go around.”

9   ODE TO GRAY – Harry gave it a good go, out of the same Aces Rock race. Made the winner work hard, that’s for sure! Not exactly “rewarded” with this post tonight. What’s the plan from out here? Must time that one move perfectly.

Race 2

1   VETTEL N – Went a very big trip to beat a very good field down at Philly! I see the in-and-out pattern, though. Note he did win here earlier this year, so he’s just a very good horse! I like the spot from the pole. Guns to protect, then sits?

2   JACK’S SHADOW N – Just forget about that last one, from the bad post when he just took back. That will happen every now and then. His last try at this level came against #1. Won’t be able to step around #1, so must sit patiently.

3   ANA AFREET – Couldn’t possibly be any sharper right now. Nap likes to have him on, or close to the lead, so that plays into a big pace scenario tonight. If he reaches, without too much pressure, he will be very tough to catch now.

4   DECISION DAY – Went on that really nice roll a few weeks ago. Credit for that. Was in the Highalator race after that, so don’t hold that against him. This is still very high in class, but actually a better situation. Can get a piece of this late.

5   MISTER SPOT A – Over from Yonkers for the Tritton Express! He’s raced very well over there, so I’m anxious to see what he can do here. Has to prove it on the big track, but I don’t put anything past this outfit. They do well! Period. Trainer: Will suit the racing, but is also stepping up in class.

6   ROCK THE DEVIL – Perhaps the wild card in here? Made no impact in that one try here, but I would be shocked if he didn’t try something different tonight. Why just take back to last? That’s probably not going to work.
