The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

By Dave Brower, Meadowlands Handicapper– Saturday, SEP 19

1      WOODMERE OLEKSIAK – That wasn’t a bad try here upon return to Club Med. She finished up nicely. Just enough to make me look again. Stays on the rail here and gets Dave Miller back. Probably won’t be 9-1 tonight. Usable.

2      CHARMS LITTLE SIS – Had the 10-hole last week and raced her eyeballs out! Big try! Still in for the optional tag tonight, but she fits perfectly. Any decent, or smooth trip will make a big difference. Maybe even the one to beat.

3      WHITEHAVEN LASS A – She’s got five wins this year, but none since July. Been battling some tougher fields, and some sickness, so she’s probably ready to turn it around. Also drew ideal inner post and Driver of Week takes the call.

4      BULLVILLEKARLA – Keep in mind that this lass has an affinity for this track. She sneaks in every once in a while for Steve C and races well. Best as a one-move pouncer, but perfectly versatile. I wouldn’t talk you off her in this spot.

5      CLASSY CHAPEL N – This could also be a sneaky kind of price play, if you wish. She’s faced better in the past. Probably needed that last one after being a little sick. Midpack post is perfect to give Vinny G options. Trip in good flow helps.

6      EDEN PAIGE N – I really liked that spot for her last week and the Captain made it pay off with a perfect and patient trip. But, this spot looks a whole lot tougher, not to mention the move to outer post. She would need even more.

7      ROCKNROLL ANNIE – I guess we could call her last try an improvement, but she still hasn’t won a race this year.

8      TEAL HANOVER – She’s also had some success here in the past, but I don’t know how sharp she is? This will be for the Dexter fans, because she should be square price. Must overcome the tough post.

9      FOLLOWTHEWIND N – Scotty D got her good there for a while, cranking out a pair of wins. Then a slow start derailed that streak. No slow starts allowed from post nine here! It’s probably been a while since Tim drove. H’mmmm.

10    KAY’S DELIGHT – Barn’s horses are slowly starting to heat up, so I’m paying attention. But, this looks like really brutal spot for Kay in post 10. She’s suffering a case of the bad post blues.

1      LUV U BYE CLICK – One of the fillies in here, trying to beat the boys. She’s still a longshot, even from rail.

2      LIGHT BLUE MOVERS – Do we believe that qualifier? First go for the new barn. That was certainly fast enough, and I will add that the track wasn’t particularly fast that day. I’d want a fair price to take that chance that he will trot.

3      COCONUT KATE – She’s hinted at ability over the past two seasons, but never really seems to put it all together. This is that kind of spot where she needs to step up and find more. Hopples recently on. Good post. Stalks early.

4      QUESTCHAP – Trond had her on the NY circuit over the summer and it looks like she was having trouble making up ground from behind on those smaller tracks. I’m anxious to see what she does here. Might like the mile better.

5      UNPAID ADVISOR – Alek bringing a few down this weekend from NY base. It seems like this colt is turning the corner a bit and heading in right direction. After all, he is a son of Chapter Seven. Due to get even better over time.

6      DA BOOGIE MAN – Definitely a work in progress, as they keep trying different things. Hopples. Track size. Drivers. I’m keeping him on the longshot list, so let’s see if he wants to trot tonight. I’ll be watching.

7      GROSETTO AS – When Tim T hops aboard for this barn, you always have to pay extra attention. This trotter did crank out his one win on the big track up at Vernon, so there is hope here. I will take a good, long look out on the track.

8      ROGER RABBIT – Seems like the most consistent of this bunch, but I’m not going to call him a winning machine just yet! Heads to gate for Big Dee’s Tack Trainer of the Week, so they’re hot! Corey will have to make a little speed.

9      BEYOND ORDINARY – Another one coming off an improved effort. I’ll note that he does own a win on a big track. I just hate the post! Dex will take the call, but he’s got his work cut out for him. Demand fair value, if you fancy.

10    DUBAI PRINCESS – Making her the morning line fave here, but she’s no cinch out of post 10! Making second start back in the Cecere barn, so I want to take a good, long look at her on the track too! Very tough race.
