The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

TAMPA BAY TODAY-JAN 29

If we’re thinking alike, then you also believe that when trainers have a reason to place horses aggressively, and they do, then good things usually follow.

We’re thinking this will be the case in tomorrow’s seventh race, all for a new trainer, one that shows a lifetime profit on turf despite a low win percentage. Daniel Sanner fits that bill.

When last seen, Westward Look (6-1) was breaking maiden at the $16,000 claiming level for Tom Proctor.

Today, the new barn doubles him in price for his first start vs. winners off the claim by the owner/trainer. And if that race is the measure, we understand why.

Stretching out and going long for the first time, the well bet second start say perfectly behind a lively tempo, tipped out when ready, took the lead, separated himself from the group, and won in hand.

See if you agree: JAN 6, RACE 9, TAMPA BAY DOWNS.

We’re taking Westward Look to win, at approximate post time odds, and key-boxing exactas with Jeha (3-1) and Indy Lion (7-2).

  1. Locked and loaded at Tampa John. Added Tri tickets to the mix as well. I am lucky enough to have taken out a 500 share position against the house with tickets on Game Stop back on Jan 4th. $17 a share. Already cashed enough chips to run around the bases several times over. Like having 500 daily double tickets at this point where you go up to the cashier naming the payout price you want. The fight is still going on, but the little guys have this one one won. Swept up into all of this is the new owner of the Mets and even Janet Yellen as well. They are all being exposed. Dem or Repub no matter. The little guys have flipped the table over on the rich guys this time. And now they’re all over the the news crying “Not fair”. BS! Screw them all. Just like with the Whales on the AWD’s only the little guys, now with the help of the internet, well now get to fight back. Already safe at home on this one John. I am enjoying all of it. Maybe I’ll become a Whale? No way. See you in the NYRA bleacher seats my friend. I owe you and Indulto a Pappy Van Winkle or two. Bottle if I can find ’em, but suspect we will need settle for shots.

I did buy a 23 year old Pappy for $550 over Thanksgiving, but off loaded the same for $2K added on the secondary market, and gave the funds to the local food bank. Have the same barter planned for next year. 18 hours wait time outside the store was the added price. For that kind of money for the needy I could do the time standing on my head.

Riders Up! Back to the market and the races. Thanks for all you do for us John. – McD
