It appears that turf bettors at Gulfstream will have their choice of two horses that likely will be over-bet in the day’s fifth race, an N1X Optional going 1-1/16 miles; the Chad Brown trainee Lonesome Fugitive (3-1) or the Luis Saez-ridden Regal Speaker (5-1).
And this is a two-part trick question. Both horses are strong finishers, but do you prefer ‘Fugitive’s’ last run, his bullet-finish NY finale, or the finish of ‘Speaker’ two starts back? We’re giving the lean to Regal Speaker.
Better posted inside, he figures to save ground, as opposed to his last two runs. While both horses enjoy matchup Late Pace figures, ‘Speaker’ ran a tad faster on the Thoro-Graph scale and got his bounce out of the way, making him a prime bounce-back candidate.
Lonesome Fugitive is fresher, making his second start off a layup here and, while we probably are overthinking this, why isn’t he stable with the prime members of the Brown barn at Payson Park instead of Palm Meadows. It’s a small point that ight be worth noting.
With Tyler riding for Chad, ”Fugitive’ too will attract public money. And since he’s starting at higher early odds, that’s why the lean.
Taking Regal Speaker to win at 3-1 or greater, a quinella with Lonesome Fugitive, and adding Lasix move-up Sigrun Fast Boy (9-2) to the super-exotics mix.
