INTERNATIONAL REPEATER?

We totally get why Ziyad (1-1) is the early line favorite for the G1 Canadian International Saturday at Woodbine. A glimpse at his company lines provides the answer.

In his last three starts, Ziyad was second in a Group 2 at Chantilly–in which the winner came back to repeat–exited that route to be beaten a neck in the GR 1 Prix de Saint Cloud, then returned to win a GR 2 at Deauville.

But our top choice will be defending Canadian International champion, Desert Encounter (2-1). Not only did he win his lone start over the course but handles any footing–showers are forecasted–and has won half of his eight starts at today’s trip.

If that’s not enough, trainer David Simcock gets great results shipping to the U.S. and repeats last year’s winning pattern, shipping in after prepping at Newbury. The talended Andrea Atzeni, his partner last year, is back on board.

Taking Desert Encounter to win–we’d like something approximating his early line odds–box an exacta with the favorite and will add Nessy (8-1), second in the Northern Dancer here SEP 14, to the bottom of exotics.
