There are two stakes on Saratoga’s opening day program; the traditional lid-lifting Schuylerville and a Belmont Park retread, if you will, the G3 Peter Pan.
The Schuylerville boasts several brilliant fillies and the favorite, Beautiful Memories (6-5), leads the pack. A 10-length winner on debut, she was totally dominant.
She will be meeting a tougher set here but any repeat of her May score in the bluegrass should be too much for her rivals.
We’re taking her to win, no price restrictions, and will try to get Florida shipper Quinoa Titah (15-1) in the number. (Sunshine State two-year-olds have often surprised shipping into the Spa).
Further, we will use Beautiful Memories in a cold double into the Peter Pan.
Several interesting trip horses in this mile and an eighth for three-year-olds, and we believe Mystic Guide (5-2) acquitted himself best and will prove it today.
He didn’t travel comfortably down the Belmont backside, battled between horses on the turn, fought through close quarters at headstretch and showed class to secure the place.
The shift outside, return to two turns, a strong work tab, and a switch to Jose Ortiz should seal the deal. Taking him to win, unless live in the double.
Further, we will key box him in exotics with two nine-furlong winners, Chestertown (10-1) and Modernist (7-2) and also including impressive Gulfstream winter winner, Caracaro (6-1).
