The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

ON THE LINE GETS GRADED

ELMONT — No disrespect, readers; it’s late and I’m tired at the end of a busy day — following a long travel day; it happens.

I looked at the races; you know the players and the races they will run in.

So, value win odds based on Morning Line odds.

  1. At the races today at Belmont: Vosburg S. – four entrants!
Beldame S. – six entrants with two or three that are just running for some change.
Pilgrim S.- a ‘capper has only three, two, or one lifetime starts to work with.
Gold Cup – 5 entrants with one as a filler to pick up the change (which is in the thousands, Alice).

Is pathetic the right word? Again, so much for purse size to attract horses.

Good luck you horseplayers who are trying to win a few bucks. Is the word ‘sucker’ appropriate?

Go south a couple hundred miles to the mid-Atlantic tracks (Philly, Monmouth, Delaware, and Laurel) where real betting opportunities stare you in the face.

  2. Final analysis: One out of two ain’t bad (including scratch).

A good value in a six-horse field that was a four-horse race—would have been better had the original result stood.

    Sorry, no complaints here Alice…
