The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              BENJI’S BEST – That wasn’t a bad first go here last week. Off a bit slow, but passed a few late. Most horses improve with a race under their belt. Moves all the way inside and should be sitting a little closer. Price will be right.

2              YACHT SEELSTER – Really pushed the early pace last week and may have paid the price late. He’s so much better when he can stalk and finish. Doesn’t even matter if it’s a tough trip. I think he will stay good for a while. We’ll find out.

3              LACHIE MAGUIRE N – Didn’t make much of an impression in the first try here. Ended up shuffled, then pushed wide. That just wasn’t going to work out. Should still offer a big price and will have to find a lot more. No easy spots here.

4              REVOLVER N – Didn’t pack quite the same punch last week, as the night of the wicked upset. I guess it’s all about pace and trip for him? I’m not sure how this one’s going to go, so he needs to get a little luckier. That can happen.

5              GEEZ JOE – Surprised me with that big speed last week. It kind of took the starch out of him after that. Also, that was the $150K claimer, not this one. I guess we watch Marcus scoring down? That might give us clue what’s coming.

6              BLACK CHEVRON N – Has actually improved with each start here. So much so, that Dexter even pounced early with him last week. Off that strong win, they bump up the price another $10K. Probably a good idea! One to beat.

7              CAVIART LUCA – He’s probably the wild card in here, especially with another tough post. If they’re all leaving the gate, then he has to take back. Won’t be easy to sweep them all, but he IS good enough, if he can get close enough.

Race 2

1              GALACTIC GALLEON N – Yes, I see the 0-19 slate this year, but this is a pretty wide-open race, and he’s definitely got a big shot with Yannick on now. I believe he’s driven this horse before. Would be very hard to leave off the ticket.

2              BUSH MAN N – I’m kind of waiting on a wakeup call here. Seems like he regressed a little in that second try here. Usually, it’s the other way around. So, we’ll keep him on the longshot list until we see more.

3              NOBLES FINESSE – Was finishing okay at the end last week. It was first start back here in a while, so he may have needed it. In the past, it was fields like this where he could flaunt some back class. Don’t be shocked if he does.

4              OURLITTLEGENERAL A – Tried to drop and pop down at Freehold and it didn’t work out. So, he takes another slight drop, but switches venues. He has won here before, so he’s another possibility in a tough-to-handicap race. JB on!

5              GYPSY LEATHER – The 12YO has been bouncing around from track to track, but without a whole lot of success. I can’t really say this is the right spot for him either. Tried to leave the gate on 11/27 and you see how that worked out.

6              TUAPEKA TRICK N – A Mac certainly gave him every chance last week, with a total change of strategy. Unfortunately, he just got manhandled by a much better horse. There are NO Literl Lad Hanover’s in here. The one to beat now.

7              J JS DELIVERY – Luke H put him in a pretty good spot with that speed last week. Horse did lack any knockout punch. So, I do wonder what’s coming tonight? I don’t think you’ll get 33-1 tonight. And still needs a better finish.

8              STICK WITH CRAMER – On the comeback trail here, and he’s not there yet. I will take a pass from the outside post.

9              LYONS LIBERTY – Moves to new barn. Second time on Lasix. Tetrick drove him a few times down south, so that’s sign of positive intent. An intriguing prospect despite the outer post. I want to take a good, long look at him on track.
