The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1 RYAN RACKETEER – Ohio invader makes his way to East Rutherford tonight. That’s not a terrible looking line from Philly. It’s just so hard to make up ground there. But, I still think this claiming level might be a bit too steep now.

2              BATTLE STRONG – Squandered a pretty good situation last week when he just stopped out of the pocket behind #10. That’s not paying any dividends on the claim! Right back in box, but definite longshot now. Must bounce back.

3              NORTHERN ROCK – He’s been rock-solid of late for every barn he’s been in. Can’t fault that. Most times, these claimers don’t stay consistent like that. He’s got a post edge on the outside favorites, and was Yannick’s choice.

4              FOREVERNALWAYS – I’ll keep him on the longshot list too! Couple dull recent efforts. Hard to like a lot now.

5              INDEPENDENT ONE – That was such a tough beat if you had him a couple weeks ago. I can’t say I like the look of the scratch from last week, so that could be a problem. This is pretty solid bunch, but midpack post will help. Consider.

6              MY ALPHA ROCK N – I really don’t know what to do with this one tonight. Barn’s got a pair and I can’t really endorse either one. After that huge win, he was just kind of flat. Another that needs a big bounce back.

7              READY TO RUMBLE N – Got lucky to leave Canada on a winning note, so that’s a little shipping money! Barn had one or two in last night, so how did they do? Are they showing up ready? All good questions we need to ask. Tough call. Trainer: Very happy with his last race. The time off shouldn’t bother him.

8              LET’S FOAL AROUND – Seemed like Rob H claimed this guy to drive in the series and even he would admit that was tough steer last week! Ran into about six roadblocks! Was also WAY overbet. Should get better price now.

9              OCEAN COLONY – It’s really hard to get a handle on him too! I didn’t like what I saw earlier this month, but then he showed up with a much improved effort to pay some dividends last time. Is he good again? I have no idea.

10           DULL ROAR – He’s been rock-solid of late and winning for everybody. Gets “assigned” post 10 tonight and this will be no easy task. Not sure what the price will be and I’m not overly familiar with new trainer. Let’s see how he goes. Trainer: He seems to be feeling great and loving his new home! I was very impressed with the way he trained this week and I’m expecting a good result from him.

Race 2

1              SOSSY’S KING KONG – Interesting spot for Sossy and his new barn off the claim. Seems like a lateral kind of move to me in this Trackmaster race. He has been inconsistent of late, so I really don’t know what to tell you. His best, maybe.

2              STELLA’S PHELLA – The Phella did another nice job rallying to hit the board again. This is his kind of post, in his kind of race. Will ride the pylons as long as possible and then hope to shake free. That’s always a maybe.

3              ROCKINWITHTHEBEST – This is his kind of spot too! And you see who barn listed. That’s a big sign of positive intent. This is the classic kind of horse for Tim to wake up. He’s beaten fields like this before. I will take a good, long look.

4              ROCK TO GLORY – 13YO warhorse here. I guess they just keep trying to bring him back. Qualified at least five weeks in a row for some reason and now shows up here. Let’s see if he can still go fast enough on the mile track.

5              SIR JAKE’S Z TAM – Back and forth between here and Buffalo with just fair results. Never really kicked in, in that last one. I would need to see a lot more before I could endorse.

6              CLOSING BELL – Another one that did not kick in much come crunch time last week. His last try on the mile wasn’t all that great either. Even with Dexter still on, I have to keep him on the longshot list.

7              CASHNCAM – Came storming home behind the great Preppy Art last time! Got brutally parked out before that. Seems to me like the added Lasix is helping. He is VERY much the one to beat here, but wasn’t Yannick’s choice.

8              STIRLING ENSIGN – That’s about as good as he can race last week. Yannick did everything he could and horse came up just a bit short. At least he’s earning again. I really hate this post for him tonight. And you see who YG is driving.

9              LUCK N ROLL K – MIA for more than a month, so that makes him an immediate pass for now. Watch for later on.
