The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

By Dave Brower, Meadowlands Handicapper — Early Double Analysis — Saturday, November 13, 2021

Race 1

1              RYCROFT N – Moves back inside. Had post eight a bunch of times recently, and we know how that works at Yonkers. A couple of his efforts are good enough to put in play, and Dexter was listed. That’s a sign of positive intent. Maybe.

2              ARCHANGEL THREE – Exits the lower conditioned races to move back into this tougher claimer. That was a confidence boosting win, though. The Harris barn might have this guy sharp again. I guess we’ll find out tonight. At what price?

3              RISKY MILLION – Hasn’t missed a check since the claim, so that’s a good thing! The efforts over at Yonkers look kind of even, so he will need to step it up here. I don’t see much big track experience. A question mark for sure.

4              FOURBOLTMANE – Invades from the Meadows and into a new barn. Sometimes, a change of scenery is all you need, but I will keep this guy on the longshot list until I see more. Another one that will need to step it up here.

5              MINDTRIP – It’s been a long time since his claiming tag was this low. Overall, he’s done very well for the Dylan D barn, but eventually you have to race them where they can do. Will anybody step in and claim the 8YO? Maybe Jess will?

6              P L LEEROY – Burned a little money with a flat performance over at Yonkers. This field is full of shippers, so makes it tough on the handicappers. He drew outside the big fave, so that won’t help. Will need to get a little luckier.

7              GO WEST GO FAST – Obviously, those scratches worry me. They had to requalify him, and it looks just okay. I can’t guarantee he’s sharp and ready to deliver a big one, but that’s what he will need to win this. Your call, folks?

8              LL MYSTRO – Here’s one that Team Bongiorno hasn’t figured out yet. But, they were aiming high at that $50K level. This is probably more like it. But, he gets assigned the outside slot and it will be difficult to catch #5. Demand value.

Race 2

1              ZLATAN – Turned in an okay effort last time at this level. He wasn’t really a threat, but pilot did put him in a good spot. I guess we just have to wait for a class drop? Eventually, it will come. Fires out from rail, then sits and stalks.

2              TEDDY BROSEVELT – Looks like he worked his way too high in class over in PA. So, Jimmy Jr. decides to try him on the mile and why not? It’s a slight dip back down. Horse will have to go faster here, but maybe he can. Puts Dave Miller up.

3              SOUTHWIND FROST – I’ve never been a huge fan of this horse, but he does have his moments every once in a while. This is a BIG drop, so he’s supposed to step up with more here. Not sure I’d want low odds, but hard to leave out.

4              SCHNICKEL FRITZ – Interesting name! One of two in for unfamiliar barn. They listed Tetrick on both, so that’s positive intent. Note he “squeezes” in for the condition by $1. Let’s find out if he a true big track horse. We’ll know tonight.

5              NO DRAMA PLEASE – I’ve taken my lumps with this guy lately. I just don’t know if he’s any good right now? And, I’m leaning towards no. So, with the expected short price, maybe we take a swing against? Needs big wakeup call on drop. Trainer: Got used a little bit harder then he likes early last week. Look for bounce back this time.

6              TAKE A WISH – We all know her game and this might be the kind of spot where she has a chance. As usual, it’s all about pace and trip. There could be some action in here. That would help her chances.

7              MANHATTANUP NO ICE – He’s going to need some class relief too! So, for now, he’s a pass in outer post.

8              TOP FLIGHT ANGEL – Just announced this week that he will stand stud at Winbak Farm next year. So, congrats on that. I’m SURE they want to get him over that million-dollar mark in earnings. So, he’d better start stepping up, do his part.

9              BATTING STATS – Barn’s other starter gets first bad post in a while. I guess I’d just like to watch one. Not tonight.

10           SOUL TRAIN – Interesting spot on the ship down from Monti. They get slammed with post 10. Not good. Good luck!
