The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1   INNISFALLEN – Looks like he was just starting to round into form when he scratched sick. Probably needed that last one, and the trip wasn’t very good. One night soon, he will get a lot closer. And, the price should be right.

2   IN AINT THE WHISKY – Got stuck in way too high last time, so don’t hold that against him. The bigger problem is the missed time. Where he’s been for a month? I don’t know what, but it makes me very wary. Only best will do. Trainer: New ownership wanted his freshened up. Trained in 2:05 on Monday. Ready to race!

3   NEXTROUNDSONME – Invader from Delaware has been bouncing up and down the class ladder at Dover, with just limited success. Todd drove him a couple times down there. Knows the horse. Will have to step it up a bit here.

4   ST JAMES GATE – I liked that winner that nailed him up the pylons last week, so I’ll take small credit for that. But, this guy was digging in too! He looked much better than a few previous efforts. This is huge drop. No excuses tonight.

5   BIZET – Has steadily worked his way down the ladder and this might finally be the time to hop on board. I do wish he’d drawn inside the fave, but can’t have everything. I will still take a swing, since the price will surely be better.

6   ALL CHAMPY – Was in the scrum there late in the mile last Friday. It’s yet another drop for him too! One of them is going to win this, and it’s your job to guess which one. I wouldn’t talk you off Champy, especially as Dexter’s pick.

7   KNIGHT ANGEL – It’s extremely hard to like a horse, first start up from Florida in the winter. And it was supposed to snow a lot yesterday. So, I will take a pass and watch one first. Just to see if he belongs.

8   BROWNIE – Had that race over the track and it really wasn’t terrible. He could move forward off that, but I just don’t see him beating the likes of the dropdown favorites. Not yet, anyway. Bad posts hurt.

9   MANNY L – Got bet off the board for some reason last week and I have no idea why. Moved out into the flow and never got a high gear. How’s he going to reach from way out here? He’s not. Pass.

10 DEPLORABLE TOM – Tom brings that speed into play in most races, but I firmly believe he’s going to need a drop to the bottom to have best chance to win. Mark Mac may send, but he’ll be looking for a first turn seat. Maybe.

Race 2

1   SHEZAFREAKLIKEME – Homebred filly makes her pari-mutuel debut tonight for Ms. Chiodo, and she gets Simon A to go along with it. His choice over #8. That qualifier really wasn’t bad! I suppose there’s some talent in the tank, but she will need a little more seasoning before we see best.

2   LAURIE LEE – Another one recently up from Florida, so that usually gives me pause. This lass does have the benefit of one start locally and it was a good one! She should build on that. Pete P listed Dexter, and got him, opting over #5.

3   FRILLS N LACE – Gets some much-needed post relief, so that alone could pick up her game. Barn did win a race here last weekend, so things are trending up! I don’t think we’ve seen her best yet. Maybe a little more tonight.

4   UPTOWN CALLIE – I guess she was short over at Yonkers? That’s some slow crawl home. Could she possibly be that much tighter back here on the big track. At least she qualified here. I’m not ready to use yet, but will be watching.

5   P L NOTORIOUS – Another one that tried Yonkers and quickly finds her way back to Club Med. I know her overall record isn’t very pretty, but one win did come here. That HAS to give her a big edge on these. Wasn’t Dex’s choice. Trainer: Not sure why Dexter chose off. I think my mare has a great shot! I guess the Florida mare was good at Ppk.

6   CLASSICA – Kind of just “went around there” in her first Med try. Okay. She figured to need that start anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a touch more speed and effort here. Hoping for a live outer tier.

7   RUBY ON RAILS – Qualified on Wednesday morning at Pocono, so this is ambitious placing a few days later. Her one start here wasn’t very good, and she was well bet that night. I really don’t know what to tell you, folks. It’s a tough call.

8   SUNSHINE HALL – Another piece of a rough puzzle in this race. Enters off a sick scratch, so we don’t know how healthy she is? Her last start was a very good one, winning from off the pace at Yonkers. Tough post. No speed? No Simon.
