The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              POKERFACE BLUECHIP – Hot property at the claimbox did not get his kind of setup last time from that outside post. This situation looks a lot better. Dan M takes a turn in “renting” the gelding. I’m sure he will be claimed again.

2              SPORTS COLUMN – Racing pretty well right now, especially with that good speed. Gets forced up the class ladder again, but so do a few others. You know what the gameplan is. Send! Let’s see if he can get any revenge on Shark.

3              JUSTIN CREDIBLE – Like #2, he’s going well at the moment. Has rounded into form nicely. Barn catches a break tonight by getting in early, not the last race! Will be sitting and stalking from the get-go. Hopes for right setup.

4              SWEET ROCK – Didn’t really make any moves last week when forced up to this level. Took NO betting action, in direct contrast to prior start. I’d be willing to consider, if the price is right. But, I don’t want underlay odds.

5              INCREDIBLE SHARK – One of several from the Cullipher Crew that visited the winner’s circle last weekend. A Mac put a perfect trip on him, which helped. But, I guess the veteran is getting good again. Won’t offer much of a price.

6              LIKE CLOCKWORK – I feel like the only person at the track that didn’t get the “memo” on this guy last week. That’s how you snap a losing skid! Yannick just put him on the lead and they coasted. It might be a little harder this week.

7              GRIFFON HANOVER – Nice to see the Griff back on this side of the Hudson river. I feel he races better here anyway. His form right now is a little suspect and I don’t like the gaps between races. He probably needs the work.

8              CHEYENNE RYAN LEE – Gave it a pretty good try at huge price last week. I thought he had a chance in there and he did! Loses A Mac tonight, but I expected that. This will be much tougher from the outside post. Needs some luck.

9              SAYING GRACE N – Barn’s other starter in here hasn’t gotten “lucky” lately, but a few of his stablemates did last week. Maybe he can upset these? I don’t think so, but they keep proving me wrong. It’s a tough game!

10           BARBADOS – Currently suffering a nasty case of the bad post blues. It continues. Pass again.

Race 2

1              MCMIKE – Fresh face from the Burke Brigade has missed a lot of time since last start. That worries me a little, but this outfit never sends them out short. Have to respect that. 5YO likes to win. Only needs to prove it on the big track now.

2              ALWAYS AND AGAIN – Another one that just can’t catch a break and win! He’s done everything right. Todd has put him in good positions. Seems overdue to grab that winner’s circle visit. Definitely the one to beat vs. this bunch.

3              WYATT J – He was pretty far back early last week, in a race that he had to need. But, boy was he pacing up a storm late! That was perfect prep. This guy has a big motor and I look forward to seeing him a lot closer tonight.

4              DUDDIE’S LOR – Duddie raced a LOT better last week too! Todd took a shot and left with him and it worked out nicely. Yes, he could have finished just a tad better, but it was step in the right direction. Let’s see more, please.

5              CENTURY FURY – Joe B “loses” the steer on #3, because he has to drive his own. Looks like the gelding has been doing good work since moving into their stable. I want to see if he can do it on the big track. That’s the true test!

6              ACTOR HANOVER – When he left the gate last week, I thought I had missed the boat. But, he did come up a little short late. I do wonder what the plan is tonight? He tends to finish better with only one move. Tough call at price.

7              SPORTS OBSESSION – Transitions into a totally different class here, and it will probably be too tough. That, plus the post make him a pass against these.

8              THE CANDYMAN CAN – Didn’t pay any immediate dividends for his new barn after the mixed sale purchase. He was kind of flat too! Since he’s right back in the box, I will assume he wasn’t sick or something. Needs a big bounce back.
