The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              ALL CHEDDAR – Debuts here after shipping down from Canada from one of the top stables up there. I guess this is the right level to start, but we’ll have to see. The missed time is a concern. I guess I just want to watch one here first.

2              WILSONS VINNER – Hasn’t missed a check since arriving, so that’s a good thing! Gets a better post tonight, so that should keep him closer. I’m not sure he can jump up and win, but he is a factor if the trip is right. Consider that.

3              HURRIKANEKINGJAMES – Still doing good work on the every other week plan. Didn’t miss anything by last week’s cancelation. He owns that one wicked turn of speed, but timing and trip are always critical. Hard to leave out.

4              ARRHYTHMIC SURGE – In the same boat as #2. Always there, but not too many wins recently. The price should still be okay, so I wouldn’t blame anybody for tossing onto the ticket. I like this post to sit and stalk early. Have to consider.

5              MUDVILLE – Could be first time tag here, but I don’t think they’re in any danger. Recent form is a bit mixed. Just couldn’t handle that tougher NW2-5 bunch. Those are rough races. Let’s see if he’s a fit for the claimers now.

6              FRONTIER ROLLO – Could be very close call, as to who ends up favored. Rollo or James? That was a real tough beat if you had this guy a few weeks ago. Held very gamely until the very last stride. No doubt about the strategy. Send!

7              PERFECTBOY HANOVER – Ended up a decent third at Yonkers on Tuesday. Behind a 1-5 winner too! So, it’s a little bit of short rest, and a tough post now. Will need a few things to go his way to get the upset. Your call, folks?

8              DIRT E ROCK – Also found that non-winners class a bit too steep. Was excellent when he beat lesser conditioned foes for Mark Mac. Loses Mark again and gets slammed with the worst post. Not sure how he’s going to get into it. Trainer: Hard to be disappointed with his last effort. There was just too much ground for him to make up. If he’s in contention this week, he’ll give them all he’s got!

Race 2

1              STENDAHL HANOVER – Makes second start at this reduced level and will simply have to find more zip than he did last time. The rail will help keep in a good stalking spot, but I will keep him on the longshot list for now.

2              SHAMMA LAMMA – Finally gets a break from the post gods! Look at that run of posts. This also has to be considered a class drop, so a wakeup call would not surprise. Jake C gets a nice pickup here. Will try to take advantage.

3              WAIMAC ATTACK N – Picked up a minor check at odds of almost 50-1 over at Yonkers on Tuesday. So, that’s not bad! The race was won by the favorite too! He probably needed that start. If you’re looking for a price play, maybe this is it?

4              CHASER HANOVER – Got a tad tired at that ridiculous price two weeks ago. So, I do wonder what the price will be tonight? Continues his slide down the class ladder, and has raced back into shape. Can he win? Of course. Low odds.

5              S MCKEE – Nice to see McKee back in this barn. And he enters tonight off a decent Freehold try. I don’t think this is a great spot for him just yet. I will wait for the drop to the bottom before I hop on board. Must be patient.

6              URBAN RENEWAL – No doubt he’s rounded back into somewhat better form. I can’t guarantee he’s a win candidate, but he could still hit the ticket. The price should still be okay. Go ahead and use underneath if you like. YG on now.

7              LEAR SEELSTER – Finished a decent third at Yonkers on Tuesday. Big odds too! Came from well back there, which is never easy to do. Will be trying the same thing here, so totally at mercy of pace and trip. Not sure about that.

8              JUMPING JAKE – He’s worked his way down the class ladder without a real wakeup call. Still a longshot to me.

9              SPORTY DRAGON – Gaps between starts are never a good thing. Neither is post nine with no early speed. Pass.

10           BECHERS BROOK A – Needless to say, he’s the key to the race. Huge back class edge on many of these. Proved he can leave the gate with that last one. If anything, that was a speed tightener. I HATE post 10, but still must use this guy.
