The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              POKERFACE BLUECHIP – Gets to drop again, in second start for new barn. Definitely has a chance in a pretty wide-open race. The pole will keep him close enough. Still needs a trouble-free trip, but has a shot at a price. Trainer: I love the inside draw, but this group looks just as tough as last week. Joey will have options, and he trained awesome!

2              PALOMAR – Second start back on the comeback trail. Had the ‘ol post 10 tour of the track last week. He’s faced, and beaten better than this in the past. We have to guess if he’s fully cranked and ready, but that is possibility.

3              YANKEE OSBORNE – Dropped and popped against a field he was “supposed” to beat. So, we now begin the ascent back up the ladder. This is a much tougher spot and he will need even more to repeat. Demand fair value, if you like.

4              GENERAL JOY A – Just missed against these two back. Was forced up a little too high last week. Slides back down, and got Dexter to stick as his choice of five! That has to tell us a little something. So, let’s reconsider using him.

5              BATTLE STRONG – Loved that spot for him last week and he came through with flying colors, despite wicked final turn speed duel. Paid okay too, all things considered. So, he also takes step up a notch, but there’s room for improvement.

6              ALBERGO HANOVER – Really liked him in that first go for new barn, but he was raced conservatively, finishing strongly! So, I guess it was mission accomplished to just get him to finish better. He’s also tackling tougher field now.

7              GO WEST GO FAST – One of the few droppers in here, so that makes him a player. It’s been a while since he won a race, but this is the kind of spot where it could happen. He’s rounded back into form. Now only needs a trip.

8              STATEMENT MADE A – Back from Dover and into a new barn tonight. Missed a couple weeks, so that’s a small issue. This is not an easy spot, or post, so I might choose to watch one, to see where he’s at. Very tough call tonight.

9              CHASER HANOVER – Continues to work his way down the class ladder and will get there soon one of these nights. I don’t he’s capable of blasting, so this post will present a problem. Loses Yannick for obvious reasons. Must get into it.

10           ESCAPETOTHEBEACH – In from Ohio for Virgil and last one he sent won right off the bat at a big price! Gelding does possess blast-out speed, but will he use it tonight? That IS the question. I’m hoping for no, but I could be wrong.

Race 2

1              MAYFIELD DUKE – Back up the Turnpike to the big track, but on a real money-burning roll right now. I wouldn’t be too quick to hop on board here, even from this barn. This looks like a tougher field than he’s been facing.

2              PROPHET BLUE CHIP – Another invader from the small track, back to the big track. He has won here before, but it seems like a long time ago. Andy knows him, but likely to be conservative here and try to pick up a share.

3              AMERICAN INFLUENCE – One of SIX shippers from other tracks in here. Just to make it that harder for us handicappers. Oh well! Can’t really question this guy’s speed, but maybe the stamina level? Must step it up here.

4              MR CARROTTS – I’ve never been a fan and I’m not going to start now. Still a big longshot, in current form.

5              FRANKIE ROCKS A – Somehow gets into this race, on huge class drop, because he hasn’t won a race in last two seasons. That last try definitely looks like an improved one. Barn did list Yannick, but didn’t get him. Tough call.

6              BILLY LINCOLN N – Finished up very smartly in those last two here. So, this figures to be the big “go” spot. If Frankie and Full weren’t in here, then Billy would be the lock! But, we all have to make the choice. One of them should win this.

7              FULL VIEW – Got bet off the board last week! And ended up losing the war during that final turn duel with the winner. It was really solid mile from both of them. I guess I’ll add points if Battle came back and won opener tonight. YG sticks.

8              THUNDER SOME WHERE – Second of barn’s starters in here moves from the pole to post eight. That won’t help. I think his stablemate is better suited to this race anyway. Will need some serious luck to get home and upset.
