The Conscience of Thoroughbred Racing

Race 1

1              MY BIG KADILLAC – A couple of nice efforts down in Delaware, but racing for new connections now. Hasn’t missed any time and gets lucky with the pole position draw. Let’s see if the veteran is a fit for the big track. I’m skeptical.

2              TOP FLIGHT ANGEL – Getting near the end of his racing career, with stallion duty at Winbak up next. He’s really worked his way down the class ladder to a very easy spot. And gets a good post. No excuses for near millionaire.

3              CHIEF JUSTICE – Liked him last week and the Judge gave him every chance. Vinny G will hop back aboard and be just as aggressive. IF #2 doesn’t bring his “A” game, he might get lucky and pounce late. Has that kind of ability.

4              MANHATTANUP NO ICE – Getting down to the level where he can probably do some good. Pilot will work out the best trip possible in the smallish field and sometimes, the gelding kicks in late. I say sometimes.

5              CROSSFIT MOUSE – Firing back on short rest, like many tonight. It’s the more proper class level for him, so I will expect a slightly better effort. Overall, barn’s been disappointed with him. Will have to step up his game to win this. Maybe.

6              MEADOWBRANCH RICKY – I guess we should give him a chance too? Chased Innis around the track last week, but as no serious threat. Moves to tougher post here, but does have the speed to get out. Just has to find better late kick.

7              INXS – Here’s been here before, but not in quite some time. The layoff since July is big concern here. Can only one slowish qualifier have him cranked and ready? That’s a very good question. They’re not coming to waste a trip.

Race 2

1              HEARTBREAK HOTEL – Got a little tired at the end of that qualifier, so that has me worried a bit about stamina right now. Might need another start or two before we see best. Did win in 53 earlier this year, so that’s not bad.

2              BUMP IN THE ROAD – The Alagna Armada seems to have a good shot in this race. Bump has been good, and Odds was strong in the qualifier. This one will probably offer the better price, but I hate that “seconditis!”

3              CANDY PAINT – I would have a hard time making a strong case for success here on the mile track again. She’s just not fast enough at this stage of her career. Would be a surprise.

4              SUPERBLY – Looking for a barn change bonanza tonight! Out of the Alagna Armada and into Camp Holloway. She’s definitely fast enough. Trekked east from Oak Grove, Kentucky and finds a very good spot to pay dividends.

5              ESTHER’S DELIGHT – Yes, this is supposed to be a slightly easier spot for her, but I would need to see a lot more than she offered up last time. Likely to get away last in here and I’m a fan of that either. I will let Esther beat me, if she can.

6              ODDS ON GAMMA – It’s taken a while to get her to the race, but hopefully that patience will pay off. I really liked the second qualifier. She chased a stakes horse in first one and got tired. She should be primed and ready for a big one.
